Great Birthday trip to Kings Island!
Hello All!!
Wanted to post about my trip to Kings Island just north of Cincinnati OH.
For those of you that like roller coasters and thrill rides, this is THE place to go. It is only about 5 hours drive from Nashville.
This was a huge NSV for me. A few years ago I went to the park by myself, and wanted to ride all the rides. I was denied one of the rides and it ruined my whole day as it was towards the begining. Guess what I did after that happened. I left the park and went to get some to eat! I went to get some fried chicken wings to comfort myself!
This time was a totally different trip! I went for two days. I rode EVERYTHING (well except the kiddy rides and water rides)!! It is one of the best parks that I have been to in a long time, or maybe because I could enjoy myself without worring about "fitting" into a ride.
During weightloss journey I have discovered that I am aware of the people around me. We are truely a FAT country. I saw kids that were no more than about 10-12 that weighted in at about 150 lbs or more toteing a jug of soda. People eating french fries with cheese, fried funnel cakes, ice cream, etc.
Now don't get me wrong, I loved the smell of some of this food, but I knew that I would not like the way that I would feel if I partook. I did not want to even eat that stuff. I had my game plan in place... I left the park and ate lunch and dinner at my hotel room. That way I could control what I would eat. Now I will confess that I did buy a pretzel and eat about 1/3 of it, but I allowed that into my diet for one of the days (remember that I'm at goal and maintaining. Don't any of you that are still in the middle of weightloss try this, you know better!)
The great thing about Kings Island is that they will give you free water in a cup with ice. Sometimes it is a big cup (about 24oz) and other times it is like a kids cup. But free none the less! As you all know soda is no longer an option, and besides you cannot truely stay hydrated with soda, so the policy with the water is great. There are also plenty of drinking fountains along the way to get in your between the ride drink, and they were cold water fountains!
I also experienced a couple people that were having troubles with getting into a ride. I really broke my heart. I was there before and really felt bad for these people. I also saw people that were not even able to ride in any of the rides. I was there and it brought back alot of bad memories from the past. We all have to come to our own "breaking" point and decide what we need to do if these are activities that we want to enjoy. Also I walked about 10 miles over the last two days and felt MUCH better about that!
Well here are a few photos:
"The Monster"
Coney Mall:
Delirium - One of THE best rides in the park. The place that you sit in spins around while the whole thing goes back and forth! WONDERFULL!!
Drop tower - one of the highest in the world - AWESOME!
Invertigo - you go through it first foward and then backwards.
Next a couple of photos of the newest ride at Kings Island DIAMONDBACK!! This thing was HUGE!!
International Street as you enter the park. This place is a great looking park. This "street" has shops and restaraunts up and down it:
And now for the end of a great day:
I hope that all of you that have not been and enjoy theme parks, make this one of your goals. You will be happy that you did. Also this is a great place for kids as well. They have the best kids area.
Enjoy!
Michael.

That's great! I grew up in southwest Ohio and frequented King's Island alot. It's definitely my favorite park. I love the Beast.

I enjoyed reading your story! And, I know what you mean abou****ching people, and seeing the waist bands stretch further out each day... it is sad. Sometimes, it really breaks my heart. Last night I went to a support group meeting and listened as several told their stories. It made me want to cry and I had to work to hold it together. This is a very personal journey, it really goes deep and touches some raw emotion. And to hear and SEE others in their struggles, who have not even begun the journey and aren't even aware that they need to, its sad.
Looks like you had a wonderful time! Good for you!! No more denial of rides! Great nsv!

Thanks all!
Yes it was VERY fun!
Melinda... I really did feel sorry, but you know that we cannot just walk up to someone and tell them about our journey. We all know that WLS is not for everyone. But now that I've had it done and now "skinny" and know that I've missed out on so many things in the last 10 years or so, why would anyone want to be overweight? We all know that there is a "cure", as long as you set your mind to it, we, as humans, can do anything!
Michael.
Steve - if you like theme parks this is one that you will NOT want to miss!!

I know of folks who invite people who are overweight to their support group meetings. Is that like asking an unsaved person to church so that you can get them saved? It kind of seems like that, doesn't it? But, I was always a more one on one person... meaning that if you watch my life, and something interests you, then you can always ask ME and I will tell you anything you wanted to know, and probably a whole lot more! lol. But to approach someone who is overweight and say, "Hey, I have an answer for your obesity." That would probably get me a black eye(s) and/or broken nose. And it would humiliate someone. I would never want to be humiliated, and so I would not want to do that to someone else either.... I know what you are saying!
Kings Island is one of my favorite parks too! We went there 2 summers ago - long before WLS and I was one of those people who couldn't ride in some of the rides too. But it is a great park and I can't wait to go back! Doesn't it feel awesome to be able to walk that much and not have to sit down or take a breather?! That's how I felt when we went to Hershey Park a few weeks ago - rode all the rides and never thought twice about being tired!
Happy Birthday!
