I just finished my 6-week check-up with Dr. Houston and he said I am doing GREAT! I have already lost 33% of my goal weight in just 6 short weeks. I'm sure the pounds won't melt off as easily as they have been, but I am in it for the long haul and feeling better than ever.

Thanks for all the support everyone. :-)

You're doing so great, Steve. I am so proud and happy for you!

Someone on another forum figured up my percentages for me (I hate math!). I have lost 33% of my total weight and 71% of my excess weight! WOW! Those numbers were eye-opening to me - and very inspirational and motivational!

Okay...that was fun...I didn't know how to calculate that percentage of how much of your excess weight was lost & remembered there is a page in the Gastric Bypass Owner's Manual from Centennial that shows the formula....so, I plugged in my numbers and starting at 293, with my goal being 155 (I'm 5'8" tall), that means my excess weight was 138 pounds (good grief!).  I have lost 69 pounds, so, if I am doing this right, I have lost exactly 50% of my excess weight.

Okay...I'm such a dork....I actually plugged all those numbers in & ran that formula when I knew this week that I was "half-way there" at 69 pounds lost.  So, duh....okay....I have lost 50% of my excess weight and I am at 11 weeks (12 weeks on Tuesday).....Micheala.

Steve...  (whispering... this is an inside joke...) I bet you would have lost an additional .5 to 1% if you hadn't eaten a protein bar). LOL

Great job!

Yes... that (1) protein bar really pushed me over the edge. I am such a FAILURE! :-p

Shhh.. don't tell anyone over at Centennial!

Okay Mel & Steve...I have this friend....I mean, uh, a friend of a friend, and, uh, she had weight loss surgery about three months ago.  Seems to be doing good, but is heading on vacation for a week+ at the end of June to, well, I don't remember where, and, well, if she were going to take a protein bar or two with her---because I surely cannot condone that (cough, cough, swallow) & wouldn't have any idea what type to suggest she bring for "emergencies" on the trip.  I mean, that's just WAY out of line----well, what type of protein bar would you suggest that she bring?

Now, I know my friend likes chocolate and peanut butter flavors......and granola bars (the kind w/sugar) were a past favorite of hers, but, I was wondering.....hush, hush.....if you could tell me what protein bar would give her the most protein and not taste like cardboard?

Eh-um, of course, she is not a patient at Centennial and, in fact, she is in a third world country, but I am going to--yeah, that's it---I am going to buy the protein bars for her & ship them away.....far, far away.

Any suggestions for this, uh, friend of mine?  :)...xo, Micheala.

Why of course! Anything for a "friend of a friend". I want to help do my part to support anyone living in a third world country...

So you said SHE likes chocolate and peanut butter. Does SHE like wafers? I HEAR (but of course NEVER have tried myself since I am on a strict chicken, egg and water meal plan) that the "Power Crunch Peanut Butter Fudge" wafers (amazon.com), melt in your mouth and taste like a real cookie wafer. They are made with Micro Peptides for maximum protein absorption.

Having only eaten (1) protein bar over the course of my lifetime, I unfortunately cannot speak for how DELICIOUS these wafer bars are.

Please share with me what your third world FRIEND thinks of these wafers so I can PRETEND to enjoy one myself!

It's really early. I just drug my butt out of bed! So let me think of this some more.  the best "emergency" protein bar in my opinion, my "go to protein bar" is the Labrada Rock N Roll bar.  It tastes like a payday.  There is no possible way on earth you could eat the entire bar.  You would only eat 1 or 2 bites. It is heavy.  It will keep you sustained enough until you are able to get a real meal.  I carry them in my purse and have been known to stand in the 45 minute Goodwill (1st Saturday of the month 1/2 sale) and eat on my bar to avoid low blood sugar episodes.

Congrats Steve that is great.  Were you at Dr. Houston's office today?  I had my 3 month follow up with him today.  Your 6 weeks have flown by I remember meeting right before your surgery and now it's been 6 weeks... wow.   Congrats again.
