I am in pain and sooo uncomfortable

Okay, normally I am not a whiner and have a great threshhold for pain, but I can't stand this anymore.  I am almost 4 months post-RNY and have had a stellar recovery without any problems.

A few days ago I started to feel some pain behind the bottom of my rib cage. I had recently stepped up my workouts so I though I had pulled something or overstressed my muscles or something. But almost a week has gone by and it has steadily gotten worse - not better. I feel like someone has beat my torso repeatedly.  Its a constant pain from which I only get relief if I lay flat on my back. It does not get better or worse if I eat (or don't eat). It mostly hurts around the front but does also radiate around my back and sides.

This may not even be surgically related but then again it may be. I don't know what a stricture feels like but I would like to rule that out. Has anyone ever had the type of pain/discomfort I am describing?  I don't have a fever but if I stand for too long or try to do too much I get light-headed and feel like I am going to pass out.

Sorry for rambling.....

OK - have you had your gall bladder removed yet?  If not, that is what it sounds like.  Go to the Dr. immediatly.

It could be your gallbladder.  I asked my doctor what I would feel if I did have gallbladder problems, because I know it is very common in weight loss surgery patients.  He told me it would be pain in my chest/rib cage area that was very sharp and radiated all the way through.  He told me if I had pain for more than a few days that I would go for an ultrasound and that it would be just fine.  They take it out in a quick outpatient surgery (this was his words).  I would call your Dr. asap.

Nope, not the gallbladder.  That was removed over eight years ago. Now it does get worse if I take in food, as I just found out a few minutes ago.

How about your pancreas the only reason I mention it, is because my niece was having problems with hers and the pain you described sounds like what she was experiencing.  Best to get to the doctor ASAP and find out for sure so you can feel better!

HUGS and hopes for relief soon!!

This is going to sound like the stupidest thing you probably ever heard.  But do you eat a lot of splenda?  Try cutting back on that, and up your liquids (but make sure you DO call your doctor)...  the reason I say that is because my father has kidney troubles when he uses splenda very often.  I also heard of a lady who had written a book and she called your symptoms "scramps because there was no other word and she said that they were really bad cramps...  she was checked repeatedly, nothing ever found, and then she cut out splenda.  The problems went away.

I rarely eat anything with splenda or any sugar or sugar substitute, but that is good information anyway.

I spoke with Dr. Spaw last night and he said it didn't sound like a stricture. He thinks that maybe my pouch is just inflammed. He suggested a full liquid diet for a couple of days. If things don't improve, I'm to call hom back. Hopefully liquids will help.  Thanks for all the suggestions and support.

I'm glad to hear that you called your surgeon. And, I hope that the liquid diet helps. I hope you get to feeling better soon. It's surely NO fun to feel blechy.

I'm so glad that you got in touch with Dr. Spaw.  I love that man!  I always feel better when I have talked with him.  Good luck with the liquid.  I hope your little pouch feels all better soon,

Smooches!
