Feel like I'm going insane...

Hi everyone,  They told us at the hospital that the Reglan they send home (standard) that there is a very small possibilty to interact with my Prozac and cause major depression and other mental stuff.  We did call the office on Sunday and stopped the Reglan, I am seeing my PCP on Wednesday....but here is the issue..............

I am dreaming very vivid dreams about negitave things happening to my family.  I am hearing music in my head (thought my sister had the radio on down the hall for 2 days before I said something) and there is none on.....  I was just talking in circles yesterday and today I am um....."irritable" is the word my sister used with the docs office.  I am angry, (have no idea about what)  I am sad (have no idea about what) and occasionally I will just start talking about something not related at all to current subject.  And in the midst of all this, just start crying my eyes out???

Does this sound normal to anyone else?  I know part is the drug interaction and I have to wait for it to all get out of my system....but then what?  What about the emotional side of rebirth??  I am 5 days post op.

Thanks in advance,
Jamie

I would talk with your doctor, make a visit as soon as possible.

Get cleared up any physical issues (with the mind as well), and then seek out a therapist or Psyc.

This may help.

Michael.

Thanks Michael,

I do have an appt with my PCP on Wednesday - and of course will talk with her about these new issues.  We have been in touch with the surgeon's office Sunday and this morning and they are very much trying to help, I guess I'm "one in a million" to have this reaction and can't wait for these side effects to wear out.

I just couldn't imagine that this was normal for post op.

I agree with Michael.  These are not  your typical symptoms after wls.  But since the doctor already warned about a possible side effect, and these do sound like side effects with depression or anxiety meds, you need to have it seen about.  If by chance you start to feel anything MORE than these symptoms, anything that would make you want to harm yourself or anyone else, please get to a doctor or emergency room ASAP.  Do not let this go untreated...  it would be tempting to try to hold out until Weds. but call and see if there is any way possible you can get in before then...  This kind of stuff can be very serious.

Hi Mel,

I agree completely, and I am fortunate to have a sister that is an RN that has come to stay with me.  Otherwise, I would not even think of waiting til Wednesday.  The surgeon's office asked her to give it 24 hrs to let the meds get out of my system....and follow up.

You all are just wonderful ....most would stear so far from even addressing a question with mental issues....OH ROCKS!!!

Jamie,

I just got my shipment from Amazon whi*****luded "The Emotional First + Aid Kit, A Practicle Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery" by Cynthia Alexander.  It's a little too late for the first chapters on preparing for surgery, so I'll start with the later chapters.  I seem to cry at the drop of a hat.  My PCP increased my dose of Prozac and I see a mental health professional every other week.  I think it would be a shame to get a healthy body and then have to deal with all these crazy emotions.  Best wishes for your healing, too.

 Hey Jamie,

I think dealing with an emotional rollercoaster is not unheard of after any surgery.  Hearing music that isn't there might be a different story though!     I dream very vividly too and such vivid dreams can be very freaky.  Sometimes they stick with you all day.  It's weird.

I'm no medical professional, but it does sound like a side effect (WebMd says hallucinations, agitation, depression, anxiety are all possible side effects).  I'm also one of those 0.001% of people that stupid stuff like that happens to.  Most antidepressants (especially zoloft) make me grind my teeth.  They work fine on my head, but I couldn't deal with the jaw clenching.

I'd rest easier with your upcoming appointment BECAUSE you have your nurse sister with you.  But like others said, should the symptoms get worse instead of better, high tail it to the nearest ER.

I'm glad they took you off of that stuff.  I've actually just seen some of those class action lawsuit commercials for that drug on TV (do you or anyone you know suffer debilitating side effects from taking the drug Reglan for reflux?  Did you or anyone you know work in an asbestos plant and get mesothilioma?  If so, contact the office of So & So law firm!  that kind of stuff)

Hope you get to feeling better soon and those symptoms go away!
Denise

p.s.  I have crazy dreams and talk in circles normally.  I'd hate to see what I'd end up like on Reglan!!!!!

Denise,

I know what you mean, I didn't think I was wound too tight to start with LOL.  But I'm doing some better, have appt tomorrow with my PCP.  The thing is now, these d$2mn dreams,  they are so vivid and I remember them, the I have to differentiate dreams from reality .....def time for med changes.

thanks again

First let me apologize, I'm just not getting caught up on the boards, but I just started my own "mental loosing it" post..   I'm 6 months out, and I'm just out of sorts for me, I'm not hallucinating, nor hearing things, but I'm seeking help from my PCP and a psy, so hopefull we will both see better days soon!!

Good Luck to you!
HUGS
Amy
