I am on stage 2 after surgery. I have added the eas protein shakes, but everytime I take a drink of water my stomach ties up in knots ( PAINFULL) and everything runs straight through me!! I called the dietician yesturday and she said I could take liquid imodium but I am still suffering. How in the world are you supposed to get in the next stage if it kills your stomach and you have to keep going back to stage 1?

I don't have the answers, but I know plain water was VERY hard on my stomach at first.  I have heard other say so too.  It still is heavy at times.  I can put just a little crystal lite or something else in it  (lightly) and it will go down better.  It was hard for me to get my water down too.  You will just have to let your stomach tell you when you are ready.  Try different combinations to get your liquids down.   Have you tried SF Popsicles?   They helped me, especially the citrus ones. To me WalMart's Bluebell SF are the best.  They are softer than most of the others.

It will get better with time.  Just have to let the tummy heal,

Yea right now I have been almost living on sf popsicles, water , crystal light, tea. But yea I have noticed that the water really hurts when it goes down. Funny that plain water will do that. Thanks Cathy, I will try not to drink plain water for awhile.

By any chance are you drinking extremely cold liquids?  After surgery, some people can no longer take the extreme temperatures of food.  Try doing it at a lukewarm or room temperature setting.  Or try some warm decaf teas or a warm protein drink.

Yes it will be painful and difficult for the first month after surgery, but anytime you have pain, you will want to contact the surgeon's office and make sure its not something more serious...  other than that, you will experience difficulties and only time and nursing yourself along will make it better.

this is not an easy surgery.  You will have pains, you will get sick from time to time unless your one of the lucky few who never experience any problems, but those are rare.

Yea the water is out of the refrigerator but really it never once bothered me until I added the protein shakes. I have stopped taking the protein shakes for a few days to see if that helps and I will try my drinks at room temp. I will try anything Thanks so much!!!

Along with the temperature of your water, are you perhaps taking bigger swallows of the plain water? I do remember early out taking too big of a swallow and it felt like I had swallowed a rock. PAIN!!!!!

So, warm or room temperature and baby sips.

Are you drinking water right after your EAS shake? Perhaps you need to try a different shake/protein supplement. The EAS may be what your tummy is objecting to. Everyone is different in what agrees/disagrees with them. What else have you tried?

Yea I have caught myself taking bigger drinks a few times but most of the time I sip. sip, sip. I may have to get another protein drink. I move on to stage 3 next week I am sure I will have issues there also but I sure hope I dont . Thanks Susan....

Look at the EAS shakes.  How many carbs, sugars per serving?  You  may have gotten the wrong EAS.  There is one that has a high carb content.  Let's take a look at that

It says......carbs......4g
                  sugar......0g
               protein.......17g

EAS AdvantEdge carb control    chocolate fudge

2g net carbs

Is that the right one, we don`t have a big selection at our wal mart.......
I also want to ask you about applesauce I havent ate any but I got some that said no sugar added but when I got home I looked on back and it said 11g sugar I guess its natural sugar is that ok to eat or not??????

This can be so confusing!!!!!!

Hi Sonya,
I am on Stage 3 right now.  When I was on Stage 2 the shakes did the exact same thing to me.  I tried 4 different brands and they all did the same thing.  My tummy just couldn't handle them.  They were within the guidelines as far as carbs and sugar.  I would drink and within an hour my stomach would start cramping bad and then it was a nice long visit to the toilet.

You might want to go back to clear protein until stage 3.  That is what Dr. Houston suggested to me.  Call your doc to be sure.

Hang in there!
