Almost Done with Pureed Diet! Help Please!
Hi guys,
I am almost done with my pureed diet and I am looking forward to eating again.
I am looking for ideas on what you guys did early on when you were on "real food". So far I have though of shrimp and grilled chicken but I want t a little more variety. Unfortunately I don't like fish so that isn't an option.
Do you guys have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Try to keep it moist. Dense meat such as grilled chicken might give you problems at first. You might try canned tuna or chicken. I still love the White bean chili and home made regular chili. I make a crock pot full and put it in small containers so all I have to do is put it in the microwave when I want something quick. It goes down good.
Shrimp seems like it would be pretty dense, but for some reason I tolerated it pretty well at first. It was one of the first things I ate when we went out. I could only eat 3 or 4 medium shrimp at one sitting, but it worked for me.
I made some mini meat loaves made out of turkey meat and made them really moist. I put them in the freezer and warm them up when I want a quick supper.
Tonight I made some cauliflower and tomatoes with balsamic dressing and Parmesan cheese. I put a little water and I can't believe it's not butter in it, covered it with aluminum foil and steamed it until it was moist. It was SOOOOOO good. I usually try to get the protein in first, but I just wanted a change. It was worth it. I did eat the protein first and had some leftover shrimp with it.
Good luck. You just have to experiment until you know what will work for you. The tummy will let you know!

I agree with Amy... give yourself some options. Try a different kind of fish, the rainbow trout at Red Lobster is great. Probably not what you expect. you can ease yourself into other types of fish later but that is a nice mild one. Hubby is a picky eater and had RNY in Feb. He has had to try some things that he would have never tried before and found that he actually likes it. He also found that it was something about how it was prepared another time he had it that made it so unpleasant for him. I think that happens with fish a lot. :)
The reason I push the fish so much is that it is perfect for us. The texture is so easy to get down and it has made my life a lot easier on some of those hard days.
As far as things other than fish..... at that stage, I ate a lot of beans, scallops, Krab meat, shrimp, and ground turkey and ground beef. I also ALWAYS have cans of fat free gravy on hand. things are getting easier now but then, when I made chicken breast, pork loin or cube steak, I would use my non-stick pan and a bit of Pam and get some color on it. Then I would cover it in gravy and stick it in the oven to fini**** off. The lubrication is CRUCIAL at that point.
At 5 months, I just had my first piece of grilled chicken breast yesterday that didn't kill me. I wanted sooo bad to just east normally, but I kinda had to resign myself that I was going to have to work a bit harder in the kitchen for a little bit.

On top of what my wife has mentioned here, alot of people have problems with different kinds of meat (chicken, pork, beef) because they don't chew enough (including Missy). You have to chew 25 to 30 times, as you don't have the stomach you had before with stomach acid and all. So chew until it's a pureed like consistency before swallowing. And if you can't chew it up enough to where you can swallow it, spit it out then, it ain't worth swallowing and being in pain.
Good luck, you'll get the hang of it, your stomach won't give you a choice
