How many calories do I need to get in each day? I'm almost 3 wks out from surgery, Do I need to count them so soon? I have just started the soft stage , so right now all I eat is scrambled eggs, cheese, wendys chili, carb master yogurt, sf pudding, and of course sf jello, and cottage cheese. If any one has any suggestions for different things, I would appericate it. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

Hello and welcome.
Firstly I would recommend that you follow what your Doctor/Nut has suggested.

If they are or were not able to give you this information, than I would shoot for anywhere between 400-600 calories.  But make sure that most of these come from lean proteins.

Also, out of the list of foods that you listed, the one that I would recommend that you stay away from is the chili from Wendys.  Any fast food is not good.  If you want chili, please make your own and if you don't eat much of it, freeze it into the ziplock one cup containers.

Another thing that you may also want to add is CANNED chicken, as it is allowed on the soft or pureed diet.  Some people are not able to tolerate it, but if you are eating chili from Wendy's then you should be fine.

Glad that you found the Carbmaster Yogurt at Krogers.  I LIVE on that stuff.  I buy huge quanties of it each time I go shopping.  Sometimes I eat two a day.  One for breakfast, and another if I want a snack.

Keep up the good work!

Michael.

Thank you Michael for that information , I also love the Krogers carb master yogurt. I have tried the can chicken , my pouch dosen't like it at all.  I also tried tuna it dosen't settle well either, maybe I can tolerate them later on . My Dr./Nut didn't tell me how many calories I need in a day. But I thank you for the information. GOD BLESS YOU .

I'm glad that I could help.  That's ok if you cannot tolerate the canned chicken or tuna.  Just make sure that you are getting in your protein for the day.  There are alot of people that cannot tolerate chicken even several months or years out.

I'm lucky I can eat chicken and steak.
