Edemea questions for post-ops
As you know I am pre-op and I have the worst swelling in my legs and feet. I have done this for ump-teen years, it's usually worse in the hotter months and always worse when I drink a lot of liquid even water. My PC always told me never to drink more then 45-50oz of fluid a day, but I have been trying to get in my 64+ oz since I know thats what i will need after surgery, trying to get into the habit now. But my poor feet look like ham hocks! The skin is stretched so tight it burns. I was wondering for anyone who suffered from this affliction prior to surgery did it go away after you lost weight? It is so uncomfortable I have to soak my feet and legs in cold water to get relief from the pain.
Any hope out there?
Thanks,
Sher

Ouch....that sounds horrible....I didn't have it before surgery, except when I was pregnant & then I definitely had cankles, especially in the summer, but they didn't hurt or burn, but I constantly had to put my feet up.
I hope someone comes along & gives you a good answer to this....&, I hope you feel better...xo, Micheala.
Hey Sher,
Yes there is hope. Before WLS I was having to have my legs wrapped two to three times per week. Mine got so bad that I had wound ulcers behind my knees that had to have dressings on them and changed everyday. I still have some swelling on both sides, but NOTHING like I use to. I still wear support stockings, but those are not as bad as the wraps. I tend to have more swelling on my left side still, but that is partially due to a auto accident back in 1984, I will always have more trouble on that side than the other. I remember having to wear men's size 12 or larger slip on house shoes because I could not find shoes to fit me before WLS. I hope this helps.

I also had swelling in my legs, feet and ankles. I've been taking a water pill for years and I do drink at the minimum 64 oz if fluids daily. I'm 16 months out and have lost 140lbs and I still have swelling in my feet, legs and ankles. I don't have the pain that you have. They just feel like they are going to explode some days. My PCP told me to keep taking the water pill. I'm convinced there's got to be something else that can be done. Thinking about going to another doctor. Good luck and I hope you find the answers you were looking for.
All of you give me so much hope. I am having my surgery (RNY) on the 27th of May with Dr Williams from Premier in Knoxville. I am 42, have rhumatiod arthritis, copd, emphysema, among others. I just want to get healthy so I have a chance to be around to see and be an active part of my not yet in the works grandkids. LOL
I keep reading all the things that go away and/or improve for other people and pray that I have at least some of the same luck.
Thanks, just felt the need to say thanks,
Jamie
