Question about goal weight (or advice)

Hello all,

Many of you know me (that posts regularlly).

I am, as of this morning, just under 14lbs from my original goal weight (199).  I was grabbing onto my tummy, or skin and it still feels like it is full of fat still.

I think that I might have some more to loose after I reach my goal.

Any of you that have excess fat on their abdomin, does it feel like "just" skin, or is there still some fat in there as well?

I always thought that it would just be skin, and that there is no fat in there, so I'm not sure.

Anyone??

Michael.

Mike, are you now in the "normal" range of the bmi scale?  I would say that if/when you are in that range, that is a good place to be.  While I do not promote going below the normal range, or on the low end, keep in mind that there is often a bounce back range...  where folks will gain a few lbs from their LOWEST weight...  Knowing that, I lost below the normal range, and now I am deadset in the center after gaining some.  Regain is not always terrible!  For, I was too low...  Just keep in mind that your goal is to be in the normal bmi...

anyway, about you...  I know what you are saying.. looking in that mirror and not knowing "is this fat?  Is this loose skin?"  Let me direct you to a link.  Before/after Plastics and you can make a decision whether it was fat or loose skin! lol....  That puts it into perspective.  I could not differentiate between the two:  fat or loose skin.  But as long as I saw what you will see when clicking on the link... I WAS FAT and still needed to lose.

I asked Dr. Houston once, "Is this fat, or loose skin?"  He told me it was a combination of both.  No amount of exercise or more loss was going to take that stomach off!!!  That was when he suggested going ahead to see a plastic surgeon.  It was damage that I had done to myself from the years of obesity...  damage that I have many times resented myself for allowing.an entirely different subject all together!!  Not sure if that helps...  But if you really want to know, you should ask your surgeon next visit...  "Am I through loosing, and will this be taken care of with plastics?"

*I also want to add one more thing.  I STILL struggle with that loose skin on my left side.  I look at it and wonder "is that fat?  I have gained...."  and it bothers me.  But I KNOW it is loose skin...  it was there before I gained... its there after I gained...  it is very hard on us mentally!  We want to go as low as we can, and erase the signs that we were ever obese... Just as a plastic surgeon said to me during a consult, "I understand that you want to erase the signs of obesity, but that is not going to happen..."  (without a lot of time, surgery, money that is!  haha)

Ok Thanks.

I think that I still have fat to lose.

I am now just overweight.  My BMI is about 28.8.  High end for my is 184lbs.  But if I lose down to that, I'm afraid that it may be too much weight loss.

I will talk to both my PCP and my surgen and see what they say.  I have a physical next month with PCP and we will see.

Thanks,

Michael

Mike.
I let my surgeon's NP help me set my goal. She set it higher than I thought it would be. It would still leave me in the overweight category. She set it at 170. I am 5'8. I was thinking 160 because that would put me at a normal BMI. She thinks that will make me look too thin to others. We will just have to wait and see. I think you should take your doctor's opinion into consideration but ultimately, you need to be happy with where you are. If that is a little less than your doctor's goal then go for it.
I wish you the best.

Hey Mike, depending on how big you were prior to surgery (sorry I didn't think of this sooner), you might have more loose skin than some folks.  The bigger a person is, the more loose skin they can have...  so that 'could' be why you are where you are...  I didn't even take that into consideration.

Why don't you email my friend, Michael Sircy (his name is michael s too).  He's on my friends list.  I told him tonight about your post, and he is probably expecting to hear from you or maybe he will email you.  He's already had his plastics.  He is a little over 6 foot, and starting weight was 383...  isn't that about where you were when you started?  He could probably tell you some great info...  He had the total belt lipectomy *cut all the way around his body* and also, a facelift...
