Please no sugar coating it ,tell me what to expect. How was your surgery, how much pain was you in?  How long was you in pain? I am 10 days away from a new life and I am freaking out a little. But I am totally dedicated to the surgery I just want to know about your experiences.

I am right there with you Sonya. I am a month away today and already feeling anxiety over the surgery and recovery part.

I want to breeze right past it and get to the losing weight part

Thanks for posting this I look forward to the answers too.

I can honestly say I've have had more discomfort with the flu.
I think getting your head right before surgery is the key. Five hours after getting to my room I was up and walking laps around the nurses station. I would say the gas left in your body was the only discomfort and that was just pressure and the more you walked the quicker you got it out. Good Luck don't over think it. C'ya Bob

I am worried I watched a special last night on this boy having wls he was 407 pounds and when he came out of surgery he was hooked up to everything and that freaked me out. I definitely would love to skip through the surgery and just start losing...lol but I know that wont happen and we need to know what we are in for. We need to know exactly what happens through a person with experience that has lived through the surgery and is doing great. A little reassurance is what we need.

Everything they described in the Centennial Owners Manual was spot on. Parts of the recovery were unpleasant, yes. But painful, no. In my mind I pictured it to be much worse and it was actually a piece of cake. Recovering from the flu was more unpleasant then having RNY surgery.

Ditto what Bob said.   Don't get all worked up worrying about it.  I really had no pain at all, just some mild discomfort from the gas. One of the entrance sites, where they go in with most of the instruments, was a  little tender for about 5 days, nothing worse than a bruised feeling.  I had an IV hooked up, but that was it. I was up walking laps around the halls after a few hours and haven't looked back.

The nervousness combined with excitement is normal. Use this time before surgery to get mentally prepared and determined to succeed, Focus on the benefits this surgery will enable YOU to accomplish, provided you are dedicated and follow your WL team's instructions to the letter.

Don't even waste energy worrying about all the tubes and wires and things that boy was hooked up to. You will be waking up from the anesthesia and will be groggy and those wires and tubes and things will be the last thing on your mind. Most of the wires and tubes and things will be removed before you leave the recovery room.
Good luck!
Holly
