For the Pre-Ops....
I was trying to think of something that could help the pre-ops (or new post-ops) on our board and was thinking back to when I was preparing for surgery & questions I had. One thing that kept coming across my mind was "what will I way in May or June or (fill in the blank)?". I am a numbers person--I love statistics & searched for those. I was able to see different OHers who had had the surgery & how much they had lost since their surgery date, but I was interested in knowing what the "averages" are, even week-by-week.
I think that I am pretty average in my post-RNY weight loss. I had RNY on March 17, 2009, and thought you might like to see my chart of weight loss. I started at 293 the morning of my 2-day liquid diet & the day of surgery I was 289. Today my weight was 240.2; my goal is between 145-155 (I am 5'8"). Of course, everyone is so different and this is just a reference and something to think about...your weight loss may far exceed mine or you may lose at a different rate.....
I am so excited for all of you....the first weeks can be tough (i.e. buyer's remorse), but the end result is so worth it! I just can't believe that in just 7 weeks I have lost 53 pounds....I keep thinking I am going to wake up! xo, Micheala.....

Get some sleep, Ms. Grouchy-pants...clearly your eyes are hazy & you missed this part of my post:
".....Of course, everyone is so different and this is just a reference and something to think about...your weight loss may far exceed mine or you may lose at a different rate....."
I try to offer a lot of support to pre-op/newbies because it seems like I was just one, too....so, as I said in my post...this was just a reference & something to think about. Clearly it is acceptable to have average ranges...Centennial, a Center of Excellence, goes as far as to lists the "average" amount of excess weight loss you can expect to lose in their Gastric Bypass Owner's Manual by percentage & by time line based on post-op visits. At my six week appointment this week Dr. Houston told me that I was maybe 1% above "normal" and right were he would expect a six-week post op to be w/weight loss....
I had surgery to lose weight and achieve the resulting health benefits, but, without the weight loss, none of the health benefits would have existed. I wanted to know what I could expect from the surgery and, of course, the amount of weight loss was paramount. This was a question I had before surgery seven weeks ago & I just wanted to put it out there for other newbies or pre-ops who had the same question....since your surgery was in 2007, it really wasn't intended for someone that post-op--you have had great success in your journey & I am sure you could make your own new post with regard to something you have to offer. My post was simply a reference to say, "Hey, what MIGHT I weigh in 5 or 6 weeks?".
I am proud of my weight loss & the work I have done so far (and, still, my decision to have surgery)....but that was not the spirit of my post. I just wanted to offer something interesting for others to read...not get a lecture for doing it. If it's information you are not interested in---or, if you want to initiate a post re: "Not Comparing", you can just click the "New Topic" button & away you go....
Go to bed...
I have been looking into RNY surgery for a while and have been reading a lot of the posts. I was really happy to see this post tonight because these are the exact questions that I had. I know that we cannot compare ourselfs to other people because we are so different and all that stuff but since I am just gathering up information and putting it all in my mental basket I foudn this post really interesting just like when I spend hours looking at the before and after pictures of strangers. ha ha...I need to get a life.
But anyway thee4me thanks for this posting and I hope everyone had a great week. This was helpful to me even though I understand my case may be really different. take care, Lorrie.
You made some really great points!!! I have had the Realize Band since December, and I ran my numbers after looking at your posts, and I'm averaging 2 lbs a week. BUT some band folks average more, but as long as we are all loosing are working to loose I say we are winners!!!
No matter your surgery or your goals, it is one foot in front of the other!!
I am just proud to have my OHfamily support because there has been stalls, and there have been big weeks, but life goes on, and I pick the pace back up!
