Ok, so the hair is starting to come out...  should I be worried?????   I am!!!!      I'm reading every article there is on hair loss and weight loss surgery, and I'm not inspired...  please tell me someone has a method to cure this madness..  I know, Scott, bald is beautiful..  but not on me!!

AND..  then...  please tell me this happened to others too after surgery...  but...  I feel like I'm being infested!   Whenever I'm outside now, I get eaten alive by bugs, or stung, and then last night I pulled two ticks off me!  UGH...  I've never had bugs so attracted to me, is it my body chemistry?   I am living in bug repellent now!!!

OK.. so that is my worried, whinning for today...   thank you for any help/input you might have on either of these!!!!!

Yes the hair loss is common.  Some folks take Biotin.  Others increase their protein intake.  While others (not mentioning names) embrace their newfound baldness and make a website in its honor...  hmmmm Scott! LOL.    Couldn't resist that one.  Look at how much stress your body has been through...  your stomach has been snipped...  and intestines rerouted...  plus its not getting all the food it used to...  why heck, if my caregiver treated me like I've treated my body, I think I'd rebel too!  One thing that also helps is the shampoo that helps thinning hair...  your hairdresser should know how to get it if she doesn't have any...  and also, you can get some hair thickening agents at Sallly's...  there was one brand I used when I hotrolled my hair.  Lord it makes it look really thick!  (I think its a thermal styling spray).  It won't last forever... hey my hair is really much thicker now than it was!  I can't believe how thick.

As for the bugs, I have always felt like that...!  I am very fair complected, and they still eat me alive! The reason bees don't sting me, I am deathly afraid of them and run like Forrest Gump when I see one!

Seems like you're right on target for the hair loss thing!

Take this with a grain of salt, but when I told my hair cutting gal about my surgery (she was so excited--apparently she forgot the promise she made me take to never have wls!  She knew someone who died of a blood clot) . . . uh, where was I?  Jamie said that when there was that huge, low-fat diet craze in the 90s, lots of her clients got thinning hair.

So I don't know if there is a connection there or not.  Many people take biotin.  I've heard there's a connection with zinc and hair loss, too.  And maybe make sure you have at least 20-30% fat in your diet.  Fat soluble vitamins like A, E and K are important in skin and hair and require some fat for absorption.  Having less than 20% fat intake is not very good for you.

Biotin, zinc, omega 3s.  And time.  Sorry your hair is falling out but I'm sure it's only temporary!!!  Feel free to soothe me a few months down the pike when it's my turn!!!

Amy:

My doctor and friends alike tell me that is normal to loose hair after having wls.  My doctor says at about 9 months out it begins but stoop around 12-15 months out and most of the time returns to normal. Follow your vitamine routine and make sure you get the right percentages of fat and protien. Perhaps a perm would at least help your hair look thicker :)

snicker...  thank you for taking the time to write!!!!   if it wasn't so horribly embarrassing I'd post some old pics of me with a perm...

I went to the doctor today, along with ya'll's advice, I'm a bit calmer than I was this morning in the shower!
