Well, I was able to talk to Dr. Spaw on the phone this afternoon.  He is very nice, not many doctors will take time out of their day to talk to a "potential" patient.  I am impressed.

Anyway, this is what I got out of our conversation...
He is concerned about me choosing VSG.  My BMI is low, I'm young, I have young kids...he says he doesn't want to talk me out of anything, he just wants me to be aware & well informed.  I had initially thought I wanted LapBand, but I'd heard bad things so I researched VSG and decided that's what I wanted.  I think he wants me to give the LapBand another look.  Again, he stressed he wasn't trying to talk me out of anything, just wanted me to make a well informed decision.

So, I guess my husband and I have some more talking to do.  This is such a huge decision!  If I choose VSG, it's permanent.  If I chose LapBand & then have to have it removed, I've wasted money.  I honestly don't know what to do.  He had his office send over the online seminars for both procedures for us to view.

Oh, he did all of this for me (phone call, seminar) even after he knew I'd probably go with Centennial because of the insurance.  He even agreed it's good to have that.

Dr. Spaw is my doctor and fabulous surgeon.  I am 4 weeks post op and have had no serious problems (only those caused by eating too fast or too much).  The incision sites are healing well and appears to be minimum scarring.  the day after coming home from the hospital, he called me - not his nurse or office staff - him personnally to check on how I was doing.  When I went back for my 2 week post-op visit, he took several minutes of time talking to me and asking me questions.  He really is treating me as a person who needs assistance in this struggle with weight and not as a undisciplined  / lazy fat women -as most doctors do.  I would HIGHLY recommend him.
