Micheala Update

She's back in the hospital so they can see what is going on and what needs to be done to fix it.
How common is this for post op RNY folk? Is having a rough time of keeping stuff down par for the course in the first few weeks after surgery? Just another bump in the road to healing and recovery after major surgery?
If you have had an RNY and you remember how difficult the first few weeks were, can you post some notes about your experience so she knows it's not just her! That it isn't uncommon to have some issues, especially during what Marilyn affectionately refers to as the Buyer's Remorse phase!
Hopefully she will be feeling better very soon and back home in her comfy bed in no time.
Sending happy thoughts your way, Micheala!

I am out RNY same amount of days and I am having trouble getting all 64 oz fluids but I get better everyday..I don' t have any of the nausea that she is having but I know some do...And her pain sounds sooo extreme..I have not had to take pain pills since I am home...
So that being said I hope and pray that they find her problems and get her back home really really soon
XOXOXO to you Michaela
Now as far as liquids, it's next to impossible to get 64 oz. of liquid in during the first few weeks, but it's important to keep trying, trying to get a little more in each day. And the protein is very important, as the body needs it to heal. It took about 4 to 5 weeks before I was consistently getting in 60 to 70 grams, but 50 grams is very doable after a couple weeks. Milk has been the easiest way for me to get in a little extra protein lately, but during this time you'll want to try to get the biggest bang for buck. Too remember milk counts towards your fluids. And on top of all that, our tastes change (most do), so what we thought we would be able to handle eating, we may not.
The most encouraging thing I can say is it gets easier each day, it was so much easier at 4 weeks than 2, and now that I'm 7 weeks I feel normal again. Just ask questions, and we all have things that we can share that helped us here and there.
I hope Micheala feels better, and wish her a speedy recovery.

It's different for each person... my former roommate Mike did not have, nor has he had, one single complication. Me, I seemed to have a lot! I threw up the entire two and a half months after surgery... was in the hospital a total of 4 times... (a) wls, (b) dehydration (c) malnutrition, stricture & dehydration (c) gallbladder removal and had 3 surgical procedures that same week before being released. The fifth hospital stay was elective (my plastics).
Having said all of that, you just take it a day at a time and get through it somehow... there just gets to be such a drive to succeed... and at the end, you say "it was worth it all"... let me say, the joys far outweigh the difficulties. I got my life back. It was sure worth it.

Gotta voice mail from M. this morning and she's headed back home today. Hopefully she'll be on the boards herself in a few hours!
She said an infection was behind her extreme nausea and since that's been dealt with she's feeling better. She sounded MUCH better, too.
I am going to keep my fingers crossed that it's going to be smooth sailing from here for her.
Yaay!
