Any weight lifting experience?
Justin, First - get the all clear from your Doc before starting any resistance/weight training program.
Second - forget the powerlifting mentality. Tightening and toning routines (some call it "cutting", "bodysculpting", or whatever) are about high reps, light to moderate weight, and very short rest periods between sets (just the opposite of powerlifting or mass building routines). It's more of a cardio-resistance training rolled into one.
Before my heart attacks, I owned a gym and was a double-certified personal trainer. I have some routines that should be helpful to you. Shoot me your email address in an IM and I'll send them to you.
By the way, I'm just across the AL/TN line - not all that far from you.
