Hi e'one....I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I am really feeling blucky when I sip or smell anything sweet.  I am 3 days post op, and bought the Nectar (in Fuzzy Navel) for my protein, but it's really hard to get down because I am adverse to sweet tasting things (is this me that is typing?  What happened?  Someone stold my sweet-tooth in the OR!! YEAHHHH!!! I must pay them for doing that!!)

So, of course, I stalked up on sweet Crystal Lites (I bought the premixed Lemonade & Raspberry Ice, but find that I like the ones you mix a little better, although still sweet) and the Nectar...of course I am still liking the popsicles because they are "fruity", but the jello is kinda grossing me out.

I have been craving the broths, but I don't want to drink them with the Unjury mixed in--it makes them really thick & blucky & I am actually gagging. I also gag with the chicken broth flavored Unjury.

Do I just need to "cowboy/girl up" or is there another alternative for a flavored, but  non-sweet tasting, protein that is well-liked and appropriate for the clear liquid stage 3 days post op?

Thanks OH buddies!  xo, Micheala.

I got by on crystal light and my nectar, i basically "cowboyed up" until i got used to it... about five days in lol but just think 3 scoops a day is 75 g of protein so you only have to endure it thrice a day but still its gross. I still prefer the nasty nectar to food, but my docs say eat the protein in food. I myself cant stand anything sweet including the jellos. I did find a medium... crystal light fruit punch and the red colored (dont remember the name) of nectar and also fruit punch crystal light and crystal sky nectar. I actually cant stand the smell of any kind of broth for some reason so I am no help there but after surgery I still cant even imagine eating sweets... I snuck a bite of a friends coconut shrimp from chinese and got DS for the first time and now officially will never eat it again! But I am a guy and I am sure that women have a completely different taste bud/craving set up than men. I read studies saying men prefer salty, crunchy and spicy while women prefer soft, sweet and etc so hopefully I helped but there are hundreds more qualified taste generals here to help.

There is a new protein powder out which is called "Pure".  It's created by Susan Maria Leach from Bariatric Eating.  This is supposed to be able to mixed into water, and does not change its taste.  Now, that is the most pure protein powder I've ever heard of, that does not even change the texture or taste of water!  But you can add it to anything.  Here is a link:  Pure.  It is $17.99 per container.  They sure have come A LONG way with protein products!!

Also, if you have a protein, vitamin or another health food store near you, (if you don't want to order off the internet), look for Any Whey powder.  You can get this at Vitamin Shoppe.  They have it at VS near me at Rivergate and Cool Springs.   Here is a link to Any Whey on Netrition.com which has very cheap shipping rates, just 4.95 for everything you order... regardless of how big or small your order is.  Any Whey is $31.95 at Netrition.  Also, you may want to take a look around at their low carb products, and other protein powders....  But, they do not have the "Pure" that Susan Maria sells.  It is part of her own signature product line and is only available there on her site.

What you are experiencing is normal...  and I have found that just when your tastes "settle", and you are doing good, your tastes will change again!  and then you are forced to readjust your foods... it is  a constant struggle...  and also, there seemed to be a time where I didn't want food at all...  nothing tasted good and I battled it in my mind wondering, "WILL I EVER EVEN LIKE FOOD AGAIN?"  I assure you, yes you will... it just takes time...  Hope this info helps.  Take care!

Could you get some flavorless protein (like Unjury or AnyWhey) and put them into a broth or even something like egg drop soup?   That has some protein in it to begin with.    The AnyWhey is good to go into broth and soup because it doesn't denature if it's heated, and most other protein supplements do.

Good luck.   I hope you'll be able to eat a bigger proportion of your protein soon!
