Fiber

I am getting more information here than on the Centennial message boards so I will try this here.

Ok - So this isn't the most "correct" topic but here goes. I have had
difficulty with bowel movements. Dr. Dyer told me to take Colace twice a day
and milk of magnesia if I didn't have bowel movement every two or three days. I
asked him about taking fiber and he said some people find it helpful.

After having to take the milk of magnesia once a week for three weeks, I want to
try one of the fiber supplements. Does anyone take fiber? If so, which one do
you use so that you don't dump? Is there a chewable available or do you have to
drink the yucky stuff?

Thanks for you for your help.

The one that I found to work the best was Benefiber.  You add the powder directly to what you are drinking.  It doesn't clump, it dissolves completely, it doesn't change the flavor of what you are drinking, and you can't taste it.  That along with a stool softener worked like a charm for me.  After I had my gallbladder removed, I was able to leave off the Benefiber and just take the stool softener.  Good luck.

hey Wendy, I hear ya on the gallbladder issue! I don't need fiber... just a good cup of coffee each morning to get me going!  Or, a bunch of jalapenos. For some reason, those things really get things moving quite nicely!

I tried the fiber route and it just gave me gas. Since I have started taking one Sustenex capsule each day along with my stool softener, I have had no problem. I have a nice normal movement every morning. Before that I was taking MOM every week and Mag Cit at least once every couple of months.

I get the Sustenex at Wal-Mart.

Mel and Wendy, I had my GB out 15 years ago and the GB Trot does end. LOL

Glad to see you posting Susan.  Hope Miss Abby is doing better and gaining weight.

Thankfully, I don't have the GB Trot, but, I know no longer have issues with constipation like I did before it was removed (thank goodness)

I add Benefiber powder to my protein coffee every morning.  But that alone doesn't do it for me.  I either use a something called Bowtrol that I get off the Internet or I use Senokot S at bedtime every night.  If you use fiber, be SURE to drink lots of water.  I am not sure if bandsters have as much trouble with constipations as rny'rs though.
