Pre-op - Lack of Focus, Concentration, & Energy

I am 12 days into the pre-op diet, my RNY surgery is scheduled for Monday.  I have handled the hungry pretty well but the lack of focus, concentration and energy is frusterating.  Yesterday and today I expereinced cold sweats and upset stomach - precursor to dummy - but I am on liquids.  Thank goodness I made it to the end of the work week.  Has anyone else experience these things and if so, any suggestions for my next two days?

Make sure you are getting enough plain water(or ice chips).  Are you taking your vitamins? You are sooo close, surgery will be here before you know it!  YOU CAN DO IT!

Two things that can cause the lack of focus, concentration and energy:  a withdrawal from carbs, and caffeine.  We are pretty dependent on carbs to keep us up and running...  and breakfast is usually the largest meal of the day consisting of carbs so that we can concentrate.  And, without coffee... well you know, most of us who drink coffee can't get out of bed without it!  :)

Are you drinking coffee or allowed to have that right now?  It could be that not having soda is doing it since you aren't getting as much caffeine.

Hang in there, sis!  Just a few more days...  I know its very hard, but you may go into surgery hungry... I assure you that will be the last thing on your mind after surgery...  you won't be hungry at all...  just hang in there! We're rooting for you.

Perhaps a cup of decaf coffee will help. It will still have a small amount of caffeine and that may be just enough to help you get through today. I know tomorrow is clear liquids but you can do it.

Hang in there. You are almost to the front of the line for the ride of your life.

Thanks for all all the suggestions.  Despite the name, I am not a coffee drinker.  I have tried decaf tea but I like all the herbal ones and the pre-admit nurse said to stay away from all herbs until after the surgery.   No episoides of cold sweats today (yet) so I am blessed with that.  I agree it may be continual withdrawals from caffine.  Prior to the pre-op diet I was drinking 6-9 diet cokes a day and went cold turkey the first day of pre-op diet.  If it means I lock myself in my room for the next few hours, I will succeed and be at my surgery bright and earlier Monday morning.  Thanks all.
