Has anybody seen this on MSNBC.com?
Can't add much to what has already been said, knowledge is power. But try to keep it in perspective, most of us have been told repeatedly through out our "Illness Lives" we better do something about the weight it will ruin your quality of life if not take your life. On so many occasions we choose to ignore the info, because we didn't want to be inconvenienced with life style change. Until with many of us it came knocking at our door, we could have choose to ignore it again. But we didn't we finally got the message and for most of us (not all) its been a life changing event, for once we can see ourselves get healthy. So take the negative with a grain of salt because if you want to find a excuse not to do this there is plenty of things you can hang your hat on. Best of luck and know we support you. C'ya Bob

Thanks for the link. I don't know how I missed that one. I found it very informative. Although I am not comfortable with the risk involved, I have chosen to have the surgery for health reasons as well as weightloss. If it was only weight, I would not choose it. But, as the article pointed out it is a very useful tool in wiping our diabetes and cutting heart risk dramatically. Thanks again.
Right now I have a 100% chance of have both hips and both knees replaced within the next 5 years. Right now I take 6 prescriptions and 2 OTC meds (total of 14 pills a day)--not including the vitamins I'm taking pre-op for surgery. My BP is 130/86 on THREE different BP meds. If I were to have a stroke, I would fall and break a hip and IF the ambulance got to me I time, then I might not die--that is if someone saw me fall and called 911. Yep--this surgery looks like less risk to me!
