Question
Hey all, I've been thinking about starting a website or something to increase awareness and drum up advocacy for the increased need of support groups (lead by a real clinician or psychologist), post surgery counseling, and better evaluations, legislation, etc. Basically an increase in psychological, emotional, and social support. What do you all think of the idea and do you have any suggestions? Mainly I'm trying to get local stuff started and nothing to out shine OH. We need this site more than you know. Thanks in advance. -Alyssa
I think it is a great idea. As a matter of fact, I still believe that we must find out why we became obese in the first place and deal with any emotional problems that we had... some eat for comfort, others eat for pleasure... .so many reasons! And in order to be a longterm success at this wls thing, I believe we have to battle our inner demons so to speak and know what makes us tick, and how to deal with them as they arise.. for many times, they never really get 100% conquered and rear their ugly heads when we least need or expect them. But having tools to deal with them as they come up is important.
It's so good to know that you all support what my insane mind is producing. I guess this is the reason that I'm going into counseling specificially for weight loss patients. In fact I'm considering doing my practicum with someone who works with weight loss surgery patients, so if anyone has any ideas then please send them to me. God bless you all!
I think it is a great idea! I have been to a variety of support groups while attempting to find the right one for me. I have found that the ones run by clinicians are by far the most helpful. I would love to start one in east Tennessee but don't know how to get started especially since my surgeon is in middle Tennessee.
