Was wondering if anyone has used any of the bariatric surgeons in the Johnson City/Kingport area for the VSG? I know that many of the dr's listed do not have that surgery listed, although they may do it and not advertise it. thanks..pat

My surgeon is Dr. Kramer in Kingsport. His practice is Kingsport Surgical Associates. I am sure he does the sleeve because he offered it to me. Dr. Kappa is in with him and he also does bariatrics but I am not sure which ones. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Rebecca....I live in Rutledge, near Bean Station. There arent any surgeons in the Knoxville area that can offer VSG experience and covered by insurance. I can have it done in Murfreesboro, 3 hours from here, and have it covered by someone that has done more than just 1 or 2 like the dr.s here. I was even considering the Dr. Alvarez route, but if I can get it covered in TN that is great.  I read your page. Are you a teacher now? Field trips..that time of year. I am a bus driver. Going on an all day one with 2nd graders Wednesday.  Thanks again for the info..U r much further along on this site with figuring all the stuff out...Good luck.. Pat

No not a teacher just a chaperone for my daughter. As for surgeons , I highly recommend Dr. Kramer and his staff. I live in VA but travel to TN to the DR. I am almost positive that Dr. Kramer has had a bariatric procedure himself so I am extremely comfortable with him. I do not know how far Kingsport is to you but he is definately worth the travel. It takes me about 45-50 minutes to get to his office but it is well worth it. He is serious and also a bit humerous also. I have already had him do a EGD on me and he has an awesome bedside manner as well. Hope you find someone that makes you feel as comfortable with the process. Good Luck and keep me posted on your progress  I actually think that I am addicted to this website but it does keep my mind off food...lol

I have also heard/ read good things about him and his practice. I may have to consider them if there is a problem with my insurance not wanting to cover the surgery where my surgeon operates. Decisions, decisions, decisions.............

I had recd this from one of our members here. It is interesting to see how so many baraitric insurance specialists differently interpret the codes and the insurances. Ask your Dr. about this code and see what they say. The Dr. in  Murfreesboro indicates that BC/Bs has covered it before and will cover it with the 43843 code, but a Dr. in Maryville indicates that it not the correct code to submit. Good luck, and I emailed both facilities to ask if they offer VSG and if they will cover it also. I called my insurance company not too long ago and they told me something very interesting that I think you all should know. If you are trying to get approved and aren’t sure whether or not the VSG will be covered, make sure you tell your surgeons office to use this code: 43843 and NOT this code 43659. The first code will register as a restrictive only procedure Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. The second code will register as unknown, unidentified experimental bariatric procedure and will be flagged as a NO NO by most insurance companies. My insurance doesn’t cover experimental things so I know for a fact that I wouldn't be covered if I used that code. That doesn't mean you will be approved if you use the first code, but I’d really hate to see someone get denied for this reason. I hope that helps someone! Good luck.
