Whad'ya Eat Today? Weekend Edition
I was thinking of posting earlier today, asking for opinions and poll whether we want to continue the Whad'ya Eat Today thread. But then something stopped me dead in my tracks. I received an email from someone, a very in depth email, asking for help. It was a lady pouring out her heart, who had met goal, but has regained as she had fallen to the wayside and was asking for suggestions. We corresponded at length throughout the afternoon, and we kept going back to food logs and being accountable, having a plan of action in our eating. Thus, I am here posting again what food choices I made today. I hope that you will find it helpful.
I hope that you never feel targeted, pinpointed, put on the spot, or pressured to post here. We are not here to chastise people. I shared last week when the thread got started that it was a personal choice and/or option as to whether you want to post. What this does for me is keeps me honest with myself. When I know I have to get on the board and post what I have eaten, I tend to make better choices. I do not want to say, "Well gang, I ate a bag of M&Ms today. Then I had a craving and ate some Frito Lay Doritos..." Instead, I may reach for a sugar free Valor chocolate square, or 5 Kay's Natural low carb protein chips... enough to make me feel like I have treated myself while eating a food that is not so harmful... OR if that carb monster has his ugly hand on my head and heart, scare him away with some protein drinks... that way I don't want what he has to offer.
This eating plan is taken from Susan Maria's Basic Bariatric Eating plan. I altered it to fit my need with dividing up the Mid Morning protein supplement by two, having an early morning & mid morning supplement.
Early Morning Protein
Coffee with 1/2 scoop Nectar Cappuccino
Breakfast
Mocha Protein Drink
Mid Morning Protein
Another coffee with 1/2 scoop Nectar Cappuccino
Lunch
Chicken breast with cheese, sliced carrots & grn beans
Mid Afternoon Protein
Mocha Protein Drink
Supper
Crab Cake & salad
Evening Protein
Tonight's choice was not a protein. I ended my evening with a Tastykake low carb dessert with whip cream on top (found on Netrition)

I think I know what you speak of... does it make your drink taste more like a malt? I have heard something about it. Big Lots has some that are vanilla and also bubble gum. While bubble gum would surely provide a new taste in protein (lol), I don't think it sounds all that appealing... UNLESSSSSSSS..... ::::cogs a turnin'::::::::: we could add it to some vanilla ready to drink and make some bubble gum ice cream! that used to be my favorite.... preop. It was hard to find though.
It is called MooMagic and it actually is not a malt althought I have seen something in malt flavor - yum!!
Check out the website and see all the great stuff they offer..... I haven't found the SF Coffee Frappe cream stuff YET.

Hello,
This is my first post. I haven't had my surgery yet am still going through the 6 monthly visits with my PCP. Hope to have surgery the end of June or some time in July.
What I'm wondering is what do you eat when you are caught out or someone ask you to go out to lunch or dinner?
Thanks for your input.
Barbara
Hi Barbara. Welcome to the TN forum.
For your question about what to eat when you are away from home...this is an area where the Lunch Bunch and the Dinner Club are very useful learning tools. When we get together for the gatherings, we are able to help each other learn to choose healthy WLS friendly items when eating out. We have learned that we can find something at just about any restaurant in town.
We also share information on what restaurants will adjust an entree to make it more suitable to our dietary needs. For instance, did you know that many restaurants will grill the chicken tenderloins that are on the menu as fried chicken crispers? We have learned that it never hurts to ask and most places are more than happy to work with us.
We've also learned some of the places that are not WLS friendly and can stear each other away from these places. Why give them our business if it is not a good choice for us? Usually what is best for us is also a healthy choice for other people.
Most of us will share an entree with our spouse or friend, or ask for a take out container at the same time you order your food and put all but what you feel you will eat in the box. I always ask for a small plate for my food so it won't look lost on one of the big platters they tend to use.
