SweetMsRe and other diabetics - look inside!
Yesterday, I was in Target (supertarget in Smyrna) at the pharmacy. Standing in line, I was looking around and something caught my eye (now I know why - for you!)
There is a sweetener - again, found in the pharmacy section (they do not have it in the baking section w/ sugar, sugar substitutes, and Splenda). It is called DIABETI SWEET. There is an "original" that is white-sugar substitute, and a brown-sugar substitute.
From the box: "DiabetiSweet tastes like sugar, looks like sugar, even feels like sugar - and like real sugar, has NO lingering aftertaste. It's the ideal choice for baking and cooking, and can be added to coffe, sprinkled over cereal and fruit for added flavor, even used to sweeten iced tea: Here's the best part, though - DiabetiSweet doesn't produce a glycemic response (does NOT encrease blood glucose or insulin levels.) Use it measure-for-measure in place of sugar and enjoy!
For those who like to research: The ingredients in DiabetiSweet are Isomalt, and Acesulfame-K. (Splenda's ingredients are Maltodextrin and Sucralose.) They also have on the box, "for more information call our consumer hotline 1-866-263-9003 or visit our website at www.diabeticproducts.com "
What I found interesting, and is actually why I bought a box to try, is that it was $6.99 for 16oz. (.44/oz); Splenda is $6.99 for 9.7oz. (.72/oz) Even the Wal-Mart knock-off of Splenda, though cheaper than Splenda, is not as cheap oz-for-oz as this.
I have not tried it yet, but am boiling some tea as we speak and will try it in that! Just thought I'd pass along the info...
Have a great day! ~ Tara

OK first... there's such a thing as a super Target?! And, I thought I struck gold when I found the Dollar General market. Sooo, this means Splenda and knock offs ARE bad for me? Bummer! I was soooo loving it. But, thanks thanks thanks for this information! I'm going to have to go check it out. Beside, I haven't been in Target in awhile and a super Target never LOL
Actually, I don't know that I would go so far as to say that Splenda is bad for you. My brother-in-law is diabetic and he was told to switch everything from sugar to splenda - so it can't be THAT bad! If you try this other and prefer Splenda, I say go ahead and use Splenda. (keep in mind, I'm no doctor!) Another thing to keep in mind is chances are you won't be diabetic much longer! A lot of diabetic patients lose this co-morbidity after WLS.
I don't know where you live, but Super Target in Smyrna is the only one I know of in the area. All the other Targets are just regular Targets. But our SuperTarget has a full grocery section and Archer Farms is their own brand.
However, I found this particular product in the pharmacy section, so you may be able to find it at other pharmacy locations as well.

ALERT! ALERT!
I was slightly off in my calculations!
A bag of splenda, though only 9.75 oz, is = to 5 lbs. of sugar. The DiabetiSweet literally has 16 oz or 2 CUPS in it! UGH!!!!! Who can afford that for sweet tea? I use 1 cup to 1 1/4 cup in a pitcher! that's some expensive sweet tea (and I thought Milo's was expensive)
sorry if I misled you! Here i thought I had quite the scoop - jokes on me!

More Info.....I went to the website www diabeticproducts.com and clicked on Diabeti Sweet. It says it can be found in Target, Walmart, Kroger, Walgreens, K-Mart, Albertsons, Publix and many more stores. It can also be ordered from their website and website of some of these stores. I will be looking for some tomorrow when I go to the grocery store for the week. Sweet Tea, Here I come.

Super news! I order something si,ilar from Suzanne Somers and its not cheap.....Clabber girl is supposed to have a sugar substitute blend for baking that is awesome...but I haven't seen it in our area yet. It has the A-K in it along with binders to make to bake like sugar.
Thanks, I'm on my way to Target`

This is probably why something comparable on Suzanne Somer's site was so expensive...
