Misty explained it better then I (we both have the same NUT team J&J) thanks Misty. Their (Vandy) concerns at the beginning is to monitor your protein and liquids until your up to whole foods.  Then they will be concerned with cal/carb.  Thought this was something a little different, maybe a nice change for the taste buds. I have found that making the double strength milk (skim milk plus 1/3 cup of Carnation Instant Dry Milk) as Vandy suggest great for warm dishes instead of water it makes for a richer tasting dish giving you a extra 16g of protein to boot and no clumping as with Whey.  Just another suggestion for those who struggle with protein and might not be big on Whey or other type products.  C' ya Bob

Bob Yes I'm not sure why but my tummy always does better with warm foods and drinks.  The colder ones , including real cold water, always kind of makes it cringe and cramp...  I can do the colder drinks later in the afternoons but in the morning... its always a warm latte or something of that nature....

I believe it's 1 slice of supreme pizza, purred with a tall boy!  A tall boy would be somehing you drink, not play with at the pool!  I believe we need to ask Trina for clarification!

I'd have been in lactose intolerance hell if I'd tried this. I couldn't handle any dairy for the first few months. I could have yogurt if I also took Lactaid with it. I did much better using the Any Whey in my warm foods. If you make a paste of the whey powder with a little cold liquid before adding your warm liquid or food it won't clump. Also, remember that the warm liquid or food can't be any warmer than what comes from a drip coffee maker.

Susan I hate to hear your Lactose intolerant. I know everyone is different and need to follow what they feel is best for them.  I've been using the double milk from day one and haven't had any trouble. This is just a different way of meeting protein requirements, as suggested by Vanderbilt.  But I didn't understand the heat issue you spoke of? The Whey I have can be heated at any temp. and can be baked at over 350 degrees with out breaking down. As with the non-fat dry milk. Bob

If Any Whey is added to something to be baked or cooked in the oven, it does not break down either. However, if you add boiling liquid to any of the protein powders I know of they will clump into an awful mess that even the dog won't touch. What whey product are you using that allows you to heat it to boiling without clumping? As for the double milk...I'm glad that's working for you. I just know of many more people who are not able to tolerate it. Many of us experience temporary lactose intolerance immediately after surgery. You must be one of the lucky ones. I can handle milk now without problems. I was only lactose intolerant for about 6 months.

Milk... now Susan that is a touchy subject.  I have heard many people say they kept drinking milk, and when their weight loss stalled, cut off milk and went to water in protein drinks...  they started dropping weight like crazy again.  Milk does have those 12 grams of sugar per cup, even skim, and that surely will squelch any weight loss program whether its gastric or not.  I was doing some research yesterday on Plateau Buster Diets, and it stated that a person should immediately cut down their sugars to jump start weight loss again. My final answer:  I stayed clear of milk.  Still do... except the Hood... which, while in "weight loss mode" when I was trying to lose as much as possible in the least amount of time...  I mixed 4 oz of Hood and 4 oz of water occasionally when I wanted a little richer shake...  then the frequency rose as I reached goal.  I still do a mixture of Hood & water, sometimes jus****er. Depends on what I feel like messing with.  But, soon after reaching my goal, the nut said add milk.  I gained 5 lbs in just a few short weeks.  I cut out the milk, and back to goal. It just depends on this:  how fast a person wants to get to their goal.  Is it wrong?  Not necessarily.  Is it beneficial?  Not necessarily.  Is it a hindrance?  You betcha it can be.  Susan Maria touched on this topic many times...  people will do what they have set their heart and mind in doing but the overall concensus is that if a person wants the weight loss fast, its best to stay away from mil****il goal reached...

When I was still in the hospital after my bypass, one of my techs was a post-op herself (from another program but she never said which one). She told me to never use milk to mix my protein shakes as it would make me gain weight. I have never forgotten that.  The only thing I use milk for is my cappuccino and my latte, and occasionally when I have cold cereal, but that's just enough to wet the cereal. I used to love a big, cold glass of milk. Now, I really don't care for plain milk anymore.
