Progress Update & Question

Good Morning Tennessee,  I am now officially 3 weeks post op from lap band surgery.   I am down 24 lbs...probably 17 is post op.  My two week check up went fine.  I only have occasional restriction now.   I have had one episode of PBing and it was not pleasant but my own fault.  I usually eat lunch by myself and concentrate on small bites and chewing...one day last week decided to eat with a co worker and got to talking and didn't chew enough and the rest they say is history.   I started my official nightly exercise routine... and am actually enjoying it.   My first fill is scheduled for 4/17.  So that is my update! I read all your posts and keep you all in my thoughts but have limited time to respond.  I am going to try to make it to your next lunch bunch get together.    Question:  What do you guys EAT for breakfast that has a fair amount of protein?  I do have an occasional egg but they are definitely not my favorite thing.   Suggestions wanted! Thank you for all you help and inspiration. Becky

Glad you are doing so well and congrats on becomg a loser. I always have a protein shake for breakfast but when I do eat I do a scrambled egg or you can try oatmeal. You can also maybe try a protein bar. There are several to choose from. They are quick easy and some of them are really good.

Remember that the Lap Band works on whole foods ( the pouch with lap band stays fuller longer with whole foods).  I have cottage cheese or soft cheddar cheese and a piece of turkey or chicken  for breakfast.  Oatmeal works as well, if eggs aren't your thing.    If I need to add a protein shake to get more protein in, use it but it can count as protein and fluids.  Remember to get the low carb protein shakes.   Congratulations on your surgery.  I am only two weeks out and my check up is 4/15 for the first post-op check.   Good luck and keep us posted. Congrats on your accomplishment. I have to wait until next year before I can join the Bandster Family. But! for breakfast today I had oatmeal and fruit. Then a couple hours later I had swiss cheese and wheat crackers. I can't wait to join the family and good luck with your band adventure. Laura

Hi Becky,   Good to hear that you are doing okay....I had been wondering how you were doing.  Down 24 lbs is awesome....  WTG

I had a hard time with eggs after surgery.  Still do sometimes.  I am not a lap bander but a RNY patient.  I think maybe it was because one time I was really wanting an egg so I scrambled one up and it made me puke.... I do better with it now but it is not my first choice....

Maybe try thinking about things to have that are not traditional breakfast items...  I have been known to have some chili for breakfast and some of my fajita chicken with bellpeppers and onions too...I also have eaten white albacore water packed tuna with feta cheese crumbles.....man this is good and I have a hard time with fish or tuna but the feta cheese crumbles make it a whole new ballgame for me....LOL

I do not eat the protein bars....  I know this is a huge convenience factor when on the way to work but I just have never been able to do em...  They made me nauseated... So I just shied away from them early on... I have been eating some of the jello with the protein bullet mixed in, for breakfast...  Wow this is really good and it is very filling to me...  Who would have ever thought sugar free jello would be filling...LOL

Wow, you are doing so well!!  I am majorly impressed at how much you have lost post-op!! I usually have cheerios, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, or South Beach cereal bars for breakfast.  Depends on my mood and if I am eating it at home or work.

I usually eat half of a container of Carbmasters yogurt or a protein drink. I like the idea of protein jello though, I think that I might try that.
