Veteran Question
Ok, here is a question for you veteran's. I have had problems with my back for almost 21 years - fell down stairs when my daughter was 3 weeks old. As a result, I have several bulging disks in my lower back and 3 in my neck. The ones in my neck don't bother me to terribly often. However, about 2 weeks ago, I developed an upper respiratory infection that landed me in bed for a few days. I have found through the years, the longer I stay in bed, the worse my back can get. And unfortunately, my back really started bothering me. So, I have gone to my chiropractor a few times to get adjusted. It feels great afterwards, but within 2 hours time, I'm in pain again. It is in my lower back and my tailbone region. I do ok when I'm at home and sitting on my couch. But, at work or anywhere else where I have to sit in a chair, it seems to really flare up. Right now, I am at work, and I'm sitting on a pillow in my chair. I've even adjusted my chair to make sure my legs are parallel with my hips, but to no avail - my tailbone region continues to hurt and it radiates into my hip region.
So, if anyone out there has any suggestions I'm open to them. I could certainly go to the chiropractor everyday and get an adjustment, but my insurance doesn't cover the care and I'm not ready to shell out $36 4 times per week to get relief that only lasts for 2 hours.
Thanks for your input.
I am like Freddie I dunno, I have nothing to offer..... But I do hope you can feel better about it soon. I know when I was 277 pounds on my 5'3 frame I could not stand, even had to lean over on the kitchen cabinet when I cooked dinner. This was not a pretty sight.
I have arthritis in some of my joints and degenerative disk thing in my back. The arthritis doctor told me the degenerative disk thingy could never be repaired or repair itself. Once it degenerates you can't go back. She said the only thing that would give me relief was to take off about 150 pounds...Thus WLS....
It is much more tolerable now but some days are worse than others...

Opsy. You are joining the tail bone hurting club. I had back problems before surgery as well. Nothing as severe as you. Just sciatica and pain from being overweight. When I lost weight, my back was so MUCH better. I never had problems with it agian. And then wham - here came the tailbone pain. I found out how common it is to have the tail bone pain after losing weight. I am sure Melinda and Susan will let you know too because I asked them and found out I was not alone. Unfortunatley, there wasn't a lot to do. I did go to the chropractor and had to shell out money and it did help. I quit going when I got pregnant (and broke) but the pain hasn't come back to bad in that area. I just now have back pains from the pregnancy and sciatica agian. My suggestion is, if you can do it, try to keep going to the chriopractor for a few weeks regularly. I would think he can get it realinged after a few weeks and hopefully it will work for you. You may have to go back a couple times a year for a realignment but if you can go regularly for a few weeks, hopefully it will work itself out and you can stop going. I think it is just our tail bones not being used to having pressure from sitting on them. They were always cushioned with the weight! I wish I had better advise but I never found anything that made it better other than going to the Chiropractor. Good luck and I am sorry this is the "club" you had to join!
