Joining the Gym

Ok, so I decided it as finally time to get busy and get my self into a gym and even get a personal trainer.  So, that is what I did this morning.  There is a gym in my neighborhood called Urban Active (formerly Gold's Gym).  Anyway, it is about 5 minutes away and very convenient for me.  So, I get there this morning and meet with one of their staff (a sales person basically).  She takes down a lot of personal information, gives me a tour, and then proceeds to sell me a package.  In all actuality, it is not an expensive package and I have a month to month contract - just in case I decide this is not the gym for me.  But, then comes the personal trainer part.  He is a nice guy - from New York - and he proceeds to give me the low down on personal trainers and asking me just exactly what I'm wanting to achieve - and I tell him.  Next we start looking at pricing packages - and let me tell you personal trainers don't come cheap.  But, we finally came up with a package I think I can live with and I start on Wednesday night - would have loved to start sooner, but Monday night is appt. w/chiropractor for my low back, Tuesday night is support group, and then there is Wednesday night that is now scheduled for my first "performance" at the gym. Not sure how this is all going to work because I am the poster child for "couch potatoes" but since I have signed a 1 year contract for personal training sessions, you can best bet my rear end will be in there everytime I have a session scheduled.  I work too hard for my money to waste it. So, I'm sure you all will see a post from me sometime on Wednesday night - if I'm not dead from the work out.  I guess the tell tell sign will be how I'm able to move on Thursday.  Thank goodness I still have some of my pain medicine from my surgery - looks like I might need it.

If that does not work, I can get you hooked up with my personal traineer.  He's a great guy.  They even supply you with a workout uniform.  The best part of the package is you don't have to sign a contract.  Oh yeah, to top it off, you even get payed!  You don't have to pay him!  His name is  Homer D. Poe Let's not forget about the "Big Orange Stairmaster"Just let me know!  I got the hook up!!!!

Ok, I'm in my home office, got my music blaring on the computer and reading your post and just cracking up.  You can best bet, when I get a "cute" figure, I will definitely be on a chair or table dancing!  One of my favorite songs is by an artist named Fergie and one of the lines I absolutely love should sum all this up, "Get Ready Because Here I Come!"

Yeah, I joined, or should I say RE-Joined Urban Active just last week.  My branch is on Lebanon Rd in Hermitage.  I've been to the one in Antioch, back when it was still Gold's.  Loved it when they were open 24 hours.    Nothing like a quick workout at 3 am to cure insomnia. I told them about my surgery and how I was supposed to be taking it slow, but they still did their thing.  I was supposed to have a 'fitness evaluation', but I backed out of that at the last minute.  The last time I had one of those, the guy slapped me on the treadmill and after about 10 minutes I swear I smelled bone burning. "Fitness Evaluations" are just a thinly disguised way to pimp their personarl trainer services.  I'm sure that PT's have value for some.   But I just don't see the cost justifying what they offer. In any event, good luck to you.  Good luck to both of us, actually.  What time do you go?  I do mornings.  I'd love a partner to motivate me a bit.  Keep me on my toes.

Thanks for responding.  The main reason I got a personal trainer was my chiropractor.  I have a lot of back problems and he didn't want me getting in there an injuring myself because I didn't know what I was doing.  I explained that to my trainer and told him up front that if I experience any pain in my back while I'm working out - that I'm done for that session as I can't afford to be laid up for weeks on end with a back injury.  He seemed to understand, but we will see.  I'll be at the Antioch location and I'll be working out in the evenings.  My husband joined to, but he decided to forgo the personal trainer at this time.
