Got a bug...

I have caught an intestinal bug... from the hubby!  This is the first since surgery.  I can't get more than a minute or two away from the bathroom.  I am a little worried about dehydration.  I have been drinking water like crazy to make up for the loss but wonder about electrolytes since I can't drink gatorade.  Should I worry, or treat it like any old bug of old?   Marilyn

Hi Marilyn. I am so sorry you are sick. If you are not able to get in your 64 oz of fluid and keep it down, you need to call your surgeons office and/or go to the ER. You are only 3 months from RNY and any sickness and not being able to get in your fluid for more than a day or two will cause you dehydration. I don't mean to scare you. But, I was always told that it is very easy to get dehydrated and that makes recovery a lot harder. So, if you can't get in your fluids, please call your doc and let them know. You may have to go in for some IV fluids. I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Getting dehydrated is normal for me about once a month.  It does affect your electrolytes.  Let your surgeon know immediately.  Hope you start feeling better soon. You're in my prayers.
