Dear Grumpymakesmehappy, Can I attend this CC meeting? Hi, my name is Tina and I too am a coca~cola addict. It has been two days since my last real Coke and less than 4 hours since my last diet one. Grumpy I just wanted you to know that no matter what you can do it. You have to make the choice for you that is the best. I am just praying that I can hold on and keep my focus on not having them because it will undermine my weight loss. I stopped drinking coke for 6 months two years ago and lost almost 50 pounds in the process. Now I limit my coke consumption to 1 every so often. But I do still have diet. You just hang in there and keep on coming here to these wonderful folks..they will help us both through hard times to come!!!! I am always here too if you need a pep talk!!! Talk to you soon. Tina

It is worth it, I've been, coke, pepsi free for several months now, Our family would 12 cases per pay. We buy none now. We drink the water with crystal drinks or juices or decaf. whatever just not cold drinks. It doesn't really make us any difference. Brian and A**** was seemed to be the hardest on, they would drink at least 5-8 a nite. According to the weather. We don't regret, not having our cold drinks, we have more energy less stomache problems. It was worth is to us. If I can do it, anyone can.   I have been "SODA" free for 12 years.  I stopped drinking them when I found out I had high blood pressure.      Think water, water and more water....it is what you body is made of anyway. Good luck, Sherry

How have you been doing on the liquid only diet that is prior to surgery?  Have you found it to be very difficult?

I was the same way before surgery on the 11th. I quit 4 days before surgery and went throuth major withdraw... but now I dont even think about it. I am SO happy i quit drinking coke! The liquid stage before surgery was a little hard on me the first day but after that it was better. My doc said to drink cold water which helped with hunger pains before surgery! It worked!!

Yeah this is the biggest part I will be dreading, although my mom is going to make my broth and such that I can have to drink. I don't even want to think of how bad my stomach will hurt during that two weeks. I am glad you mentioned the cold water idea.  I will keep that in mind. Oh well at least I will have dropped a little more weight by the time I have surgery.

Yes, I have been doing the liquid diet prior to my surgery......which is tomorrow, so one more day of this pre-op diet.   YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Then surgery and more liquids for a couple of days then two-three weeks of soft foods.

I was hungry the first couple of days, just lots of water, SF jello, SF popsicles and broth.  I made it.  I will let you know how much more weight I lost after tomorrow......the scales will know.

Good luck with no cokes, you can do it.!!!

My surgeon also says no carbonated beverages ever again. Unless you want to let it sit open until it's flat and then drink it. You will always find people who are "bending" the rules with no apparent negative side effects...for them. Just because someone else "seems" to be getting away with something doesn't mean you won't have problems with it. Nor does it mean that they won't eventually have problems. Only you can decide if it is worth it to you to give up cokes for this surgery. I think most of us here would tell you that it has been worth it for us to give up whatever we were asked to give up for this second chance at life.
