Just wondering if any of the women on here work out at Curves??  I've been a member of the YMCA for over a year, but am considering canceling my membership and joining either Curves or Delta Fitness.  So if you have/had a membership at either, I would appreciate some feedback.  Thanks!

I had joined Countours Express which is like Curves. It is a circuit gym for women only. I did like the circuit aspect of it. Where you get your aerobics and weight training/muscle building all in one. This was for the first year after my surgery. I let the membership expire now. Now that I am further out, I wish there was a YMCA close to me because that is what I would chose. I think it has more flexability and more equipment as well as trainers that could help with a program to focus on more of what I need. Plus they have a pool!!!! But like I said, I did enjoy having the circuit gym for the first year after surgery when your focus is on weight loss and overall muscle building and not any specific area. The women only part was a plus too!

I havnt had surgery yet, but I did go to curves about three months ago. The one in my area has an ongoing weightloss study so I was able to go for three weeks for only $25. At the end of the trial if I didnt join I recieved my money back in exchange for them using my measurement info in their study.  I enjoyed the experience. But after three weeks I needed something more difficult than what the Curve unit offered. It was a good starting point to get me up to exercising at the Y. I now have a Y membership and enjoy the variety of difficulty in the classes.

I checked out the Curves in my area a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't impressed at all, I would rather join a Y more to work with.  I didn't care for the circuit at Curves one I have enough dizzy spells that hinder me at curves.  Once I get settled in my new apartment hopefully in March I'm joining the Y.  There isn't one in my area.    I think you will get your money's worth at the Y instead of at Curves.  But it's your decision.  Curves may be fine at the beginning but once you've been out like I have of 2 yrs, curves wouldn't suit me.  I want more of a challenge and the Y can give me that.  Let us know what you decide.  There are other gyms out there, but I think the Y is  less expensive.  Kathy

I think curves is great if you are not use to any activity.  For  me, I was in a wheel chair and doing nothing physical, so it is a great start for me.  My excersize guru says that later down the road I will probably want something more challenging.  But right now I am loving it and we have a great, supportive membership!  Good luck to you and remember any excersize is better than none. Well my YMCA membership is $46 a month... and I think that's too much.  I don't want to spend more than $30/month.  I get a preferred employer discount at Curves so it would only be $30 so that's why I am considering joining.

Why don't you try it and see if its something you may want to pursue. I think that when it comes to fitness each of us has our own needs and you have to find what works for you good luck on your search.
