My Move to TN --- LONG
Well guys I'm finally here. The trip here was terrible, we were supposed to leave GA no later than 1:30pm but of course the Army lost my husbands paperwork so we were stuck there until 3:30pm. Okay not so bad I can handle that right? Well while my hubby was working on getting his paperwork again I went to get the doly to tow our car, got the doly, put the car on it and guess what???? someone had cut the straps on it so I couldnt tie it down. I had to call and find another doly (sp) in our location. Uhaul locates one about 18 miles from where I am, okay not so bad I will just go get it, got there and the guy that owned the business was pissed caused I was giving him a bad doly for his good one. Oh well thats life right? I was just doing what Uhaul told me to do. Finally get back to my car and get it loaded and tied down, yippeeeeeeee, husband arrives and we are off.
Now we are on our way to TN GOODBYE GA!!!! So happy, well we get in between Columbia SC and Spartenburg SC and guess what?????? the tire blows out on the car Im towing, ohhhhh ggeezzz it really messed up the car. Well hubby and I couldn't get the car off the doly because it couldn't get any traction because of the tire being on the rim, couldn't jack it up high enough to change it, hmmmm so I had a bright idea to call (ONSTAR) I have it in my avalanche, so I call them, no roadside assistance because it wasn't the TRUCK that had blown the tire oohhhh NO now what? So I had them to call the HP and let them know we were stranded, two hours later NO highway patrol???? So I had a brainstorm, I told hubby to get the jack out of my jeep and lets jack up both sides of the car, guess what???? IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!! we were able to jack it up high enough to get the tire changed. Ok now that we've been beside the road for almost 3.5 hours and still no HP, oh I forgot to mention we had the car packed so we had to unload everything in the trunk to get to the spare tire, and the jeep was packed so we had to unload some of it to get to the jack, go figure right? Any how we finally get back on the road and I wouldn't drive past 50-55 afraid that the other tire may blow and we didn't have two spares didnt want to be left beside the road again. I called ONSTAR back and asked them to call the HP and let them know we helped ourselves and was on our way again, I only did that so that they wouldn't think it was a prank call. When we got into the Gordge (sp) in TN I was soooooooooooo sleepy I had to stop at the rest area, we stopped and slept for about an hour then got back on the road, we finally made it here to Oak Ridge at 5am!!!!!! My mother in law called us at 6am I was hating life at this time I was the walking dead, got back to sleep and one of the moving trucks arrived at 7:30am so needless to say I really was a zombie. The semi didnt show up until 10:30 am and to make matters worse it was RAINING!!!! It took them two days to unload our stuff. I had a job interview the next day at 8am, what was I thinking???????? But I got through it and I feel good about it.
So far we've found that there are 3 boxes missing from our household goods, then to top this week off my aunt called at 9pm last night and told us my favorite uncle had passed away. I will have to tell you guys his story in another post, you will find it interesting.
Well Happy Easter to you all, thanks for letting me get all this off my chest.

Thank you for the warm welcome, I know its a blessing that we did make it safe and sound, I thank God for getting us here safely. It could have been worse when the tire blew because it started to fishtail and made the truck I was driving fishtail but I was able to get it under control and pull off to the side of the road.
Thanks again hun, hugs to you and Happy Easter!

Welcome to Tn. the big Orange, hon, everytime that we move, we had a upset, someway or somehow. It was just in the cards for it to happen to us. We even helped my ma move from Il. to N.C. an we moved her trash. Yuke, but we did. Still don't know how it made it on the truck. I guess that is what you get when you move with the military. You make sure you get it all!!! LOL. And when we move Brian's dad, his car over heated hauling the 64' chevy truck on the carrier, so every 60miles or so we had to pull over and let the car cool down. It never failed, like you we always used UHaul.

Donna,
Welcome to Tennessee. I'm so sorry you all had such a horrible time getting here, but at least it is now behind you. I know we all probably have a horror story or 2 to tell about moving. My husband and I have been in the same house for almost 18 years. When we moved in, I was in the middle of treatment for a severe kidney disease. After the weekend was up and we were putting our feet up on Sunday night, I told him then that if we ever decided to move, we would leave everything in the house and start all over again. I think that is what is still preventing us from putting the house up for sale. (LOL). Wait awhile and you will laugh about this eventually.
