Calcium Question

Ok, so I found out on Friday during my 2-month post-op visit I'm not taking enough calcium.  The funny thing is I thought I was.  I am taking it 3 times a day, but I'm using the Citracal Petites and it calls for 2 pills per serving.  So I was only taking half of the dosage I was supposed to take (thanks for the info Melissa #3).  So, I'm now taking 6 calcium pills a day - when I finish this bottle, I will make sure not to buy this particular formula again.  So, now for the question.  I don't like to take 2 of them at once and I was wondering how much time should I allow between them before I take the next one and how much time I should allow between taking my multi-vitamin and my calcium.  Right now, I am taking my morning vitamin at about 5:30-6:00 am and then I start taking my calcium at 8:00 am and take one every hour until I have taken all of them.  Thanks for your input.

Hi There! My nurse at my appt today told me about the Citracal petites. I asked if I had to take like 6 day as you do a lot wiht calicum pills and she said yep. I said, nope, never mind. What other options are there. haha. I hate taking pills all day. I am fairly upset that my citracal creamy bites are becoming scarse. I guess I need to find some alternative that is not a pill.  My advise is to wait at lease 3 hours after taking your multi before starting the calcium. Right now it looks like you are only wanting to wait 2. I would wait three. And, if you are only going to take one pill at a time, I would say taking one every hour should be fine. I know you are not supposed to take more than like 400-500 mg a dose and then you are supposed to wait about 4 hours between doses. But if you are only going to take less than 200mg an hour, then you should be fine or you can wait an hour and a half between just to be sure. Is it just your personal preference not to take 2 at a time? I would think it would be much easier to take two at time three times a day.

Hey Misty, thanks for the info.  Yes, it is a pain in the neck to take 6 of these boogers a day, but I do find it easier to take them one at a time.  It seems all I do is take pills all day long anyway.  In the morning before I leave the house, I take my multi-vitamin, Foltrin, Protonix and Singulair.  Then the calcium starts.  At night before bed, I take another multi-vitamin, Zyrtec.  Every other night, I take a Vytorin for my cholesterol and I also take a Biotin capsule everyday.  It just seems there aren't enough hours between multi-vitamins to get 6 calcium supplements in, but it is easier to take them every hour.  Plus it reminds me that I need to drink more fluids.  I don't know, I know it sounds crazy, but it seems to be working for now.  In a few day, I might get frustrated and decide to go get another bottle of the full-size Citracal pills.

Bob I have the Tropical Oasis Calcium too. I haven't used it yet because I've been so sick and haven't been able to drink much. I'm glad to know that it tastes good.

I think its pretty good, the only little problem is it clogs around the opening after refrigeration but no big deal. I think you will like it. Get some. Hope you get to feeling better. C' Ya Bob

For those of you who are new, the best would be a liquid or chewable calcium citrate.  Don't try to get those big horse pills that you swallow... and let me just say they are the nastiest tasting things in the world to grind to powder! Whewweeee!  Gross. I liked Tropical Oasis. You can find it online cheap.  Also, I did not like the Bariatric Advantage Mint or cinnamon flavored ones but the wild berry! Wooweee I have me two pieces of candy a day.  I love them.

Hey Wendy, After I finally got out of Drs office on friday I went to wal-mart and looked at the regular calcium citrate pills.  I think it said it was 2 pills per serving (400mg) also.  You might double check.  I too would like to find one with less pills per serving.  I can't hardly get them down.  If you run across some please let me know.
