Hello All, I am wondering if anyone went to counseling after their surgery?  If so , do you have a recommendation in the Nashville area?   Did you think it was beneficial to your weight loss journey?    Any insight would be of interest. Becky

I went to see Dr. Victor O'Bryan at Baptist for my psychological clearance evaluation.  I liked him, and knew that WHEN, not if, I was ready to see a therapist, I would go see him.  I know others on the board have gone to see him for the same clearance tests...  and some are in or have seen him for counseling.   I like him a lot.  He's very easy to talk with, and has dealt with wls patients for several years.  This is a very key ingredient in finding a therapist.  Just like we as wls patients want a plastic surgeon who has worked on wls patients, we also want therapists who have worked with those of our kind too.

Hi Becky, Before surgery I saw  Dr. Larry Gaines at Vanderbilt....He is absolutely wonderful.....  Actually I wi**** was mandatory that you see the psych for counseling after the surgery and not before... Oh well either way we have an eating disorder rather if we want to admit it to ourselves or not.  Dr. Gaines was very stern and adamant with me stating that what ever my "issues" were before WLS they were still going to be there after WLS, and that since that was the case I needed to dig in real deep and find out what my problem was...And he is absolutely right.  I fight the same demons at 119 pounds that I do at 277 lbs.... The only difference is that I feel like there is hope at 119 pounds.  I felt no hope what so ever at 277 pounds. If my insurance will cover it I think I am going to re visit Mr. Gaines....  He and I have a lot to talk about....LOL Hope you are doing well hun....
