I had lap RNY on 01/21/2008.  I was really sore afterwards but able to get up and walk with no problems.  However about a week out I started having burning sensations over two of the incisions.  I thought it was because of the staples, and when they came out it improved a bit, but then I got overenthusiastic and went out of town and this awful burning sensation came every time I moved a certain way.  It turned out nothing serious simply neuropathy the nerves trying to heal and reroute but it sure HURT.  What I found helped was to avoid positions and movements that triggered it and also sometimes if I put pressure on the area that hurt so badly within a couple of minutes it would quit hurting.  I did this and managed to avoid taking pain meds for it most of the time.  Good luck. If it doesn't get better, or if you start running a fever, call your surgeon. Otherwise, sit and take it easy. No more oh s--t turns allowed! I'm so sorry you hurt. If you are worried, I would call the surgeon anyway just to see what he says. That's what they are there for.

Hi Joyce, I agree with the other posts. I'm two years out and every so often I will still get a sharp burning pain, but mine is scar tissue that is causing it.  Let your surgeon know.  Hoping you start feeling better.
