Protein Question
Hello again, I have been reading all your posts...You bunch of TN folks know how to have a good time and support each other. I am still 3 weeks away from lap band surgery but have been practicing my liquid diet...having liquids during the day and eating dinner with my husband. My question is...Does anyone recommend a particular protein shake? I have been using Slimfast and it tastes alright...but I noticed it only has 10 grams of protein per serving. I don't seem to stay full long. I was wondering if another product that has more protein per serving would keep me feeling full longer?? Any thoughts or recommendations. I do start my real pre-opt diet next tuesday. Two protein shakes and a lean cuisine for the first week ...followed by four protein shakes the next week.

Hi Becky, as for protein shakes, I've been out for 2 years and the best advice we post-ops can give you is to not stock up on protein for after surgery. You may find your taste buds change. I don't know about having the lapband but having the gastric our taste buds change constantly. One month or even one day you like something, the next you won't, the best thing to do is go to bariatriceating.com and buy samples. Remember if you buy something you find later you don't like, you can always sell it at the lunch bunch groups. They have lunch 2nd Saturday of every month. I'm going to try and make it to the one in March, weather permitting.
I wish you the best on your new journey.
May God be with you always,
Kathy

You might try the Slim-Fast Low Carb Diet. They have 20 grams of protein per shake.
I also second Scott's recommendation of the EAS AdvantEdge shakes. My favorite is the Cafe Caramel but the Chocolate Fudge is really good too.
I don't think Lap Banders go through the same change in tastes as RNY patients. One of our bandsters will be able to answer that better than I.
Good luch with your surgery. You will be in great hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
