Protein Drinks

Hey Wendy!  I'm in the same boat you are.  I'm one day ahead of you.  I haven't been pureeing food but I practically live on eggs, oatmeal and yogurt.  Getting burned out.  Anyway, I can't stand the thought of drinking a slim fast or any of those drinks we had to drink before surgery.  I took a chance and ordered some Nectar- Carribbean Cooler flavor.  It has 23g of protein per scoop.  I mix 1scoop in with 1 packet of Crystal Light Raspberry Lemonade or reg. CL Lemonade  and 20 oz of water.  It's really good.  I drink this every morning before work and once when I get home.  This way I'm getting in water and protein!!! Hope this helps. Melissa

Thanks Melinda, I appreciate the suggestion.  How are you doing?  I hope things are going well for you.  You know some days I can do the eggs and some days I can't.  Yogurt has all but eliminated from my fridge.  I do the oatmeal sometimes.  But, I'm also eating things like really soft cheese (Laughing Cow), if it is really tender and I cut it into really tiny pieces, I will eat grilled chicken and roasted turkey breast.  There are also a few other things I've eaten and they seem to do ok and not cause me any problems.  My weight is going down and I'm feeling pretty good - a little more tired than just a few weeks ago, but all in all, I'm doing ok.  I'm still watching for signs of my hair not doing so well.  I've heard stories of folks losing hair at a rapid rate.  Because of that, I've added Biotin to my daily "pill ****tail" and I'm really trying to get the protein in.

Anyway, hang in there my friend.  We are walking this journey together and we will get to our destination before we know it.  Let's definitely keep in touch since we are just one day apart with our surgery and have the same doctor.

Thanks again and have a great weekend.

I got to where I hated sweet stuff for a while.  I did find that making protein pudding helped.  I used EAS chocolate protein powder, 2 scoops with a large Jello sugar free pudding and skim milk according to box directions.  It tasted really good and really bumped up the protein.  I also added AnyWhey to fat free cream of chicken soup.  I put the AnyWhey in a cup, and added a little water to make a paste, then added that to the soup that I made with skim milk.  I then strained the soup and really like it.  I think a scoop of AnyWhey adds 20g of protein. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas.  I know one thing I am going to do this weekend.  I'm going to get me some watermelon Cytosport.  I tried it at the February lunchbunch and if I add a little bit of water to it, it is pretty good.  I bottle will be enough for 1 day as it gives you 40 grams of protein.  So, half in the am and half in the pm.  I am also going to make some protein pudding this weekend.  There was a recipe for it in my "Owner's Manual" given to me at Dr. McDowell's office.  Hopefully, that will really work to boost my protein up some.

I don't know if it is enough protein for a meal replacement (5grms), but the new K20 protein water by special K is good to sip on. They have pink lemonade, tea with lemon, and my favorite, strawberry kiwi. I think they are 30 cals.
