I haven't posted in a while, but I know have a quiestion. It's been 3wks and 3 days since surgery! The scales aren't moving much, but my clothes are ffitting better. I'm considering throwing the scales away or at least putting them up for about six months! My energy level is getting back to normal (Thank God!)  Anyway, my question is about overeating. I think that is what I did today. I didn't get sick or nausea, but I had the worst heartburn, at least that's what it felt like, in my chest and throat for about 3 hours after eating some creamy chicken soup. It was the Campbells that comes in the drinking cups you can put in the microwave. I thought it would be good since there are no big chunks of chicken. I may have either eaten too fast or too much, beacuse it is like drinking water that taste like chicken. Have you guys had this heartburn thing happen? I am taking my Prevacid everyday.  Thanks!

Hey Samantha!   You hit the nail on the head!  I do it very often and know the feeling well.  As for the stall, that is sooooo normal.  Your body is in starvation mode and is hanging on for dear life.  It will get over it and you will move again.  I'm happy to hear your energy level is back.  It took me several more weeks than three, but it came back like gang busters.   Hope you are having a good Valentines Day.   have a great weekend. I dont think its a good idea to have creamy soups... broth based I believe are ok...  check with your eating plan.  But the creamy soups have lots of carbs and cals and fat...  you would fare better with a soup that has broth...  and if the cream has milk in it, you might have a reaction like lactose intolerance. If you continue to get that feeling, let your surgeon know... it could be an ulcer.  But remember your tummy is still very new, and still healing...  keep taking your prevacid, but talk to your surgeon's office if it continues to burn and hurt.   Hope you get to feeling better soon....  remember, be kind to your new tummy.  Its like you have an infant's tummy and it needs gentle foods right now...

If you drank that whole container of soup, it was too much. You should be eating/drinking no more than 4oz at a time right now. Also, like Mel said, watch the carbs in those cream of "whatever" soups.  At this stage you could have pureed chicken, tuna, or egg salad made with light mayo, celery seed or celery salt, pickle juice (no chopped pickle just yet), maybe a dab of mustard, salt & pepper. You could also take a broth based soup and puree some extra cooked chicken into it to up the protein. Just remember that the nerves in your stomach have been cut so it's near impossible to accurately determine "full". You will do much better if you measure your portion and keep it to about 1/2 cup. You may find that you can only hold 1/4 cup of something denser like the pureed meat/egg salad, cottage cheese, or yogurt. It is okay to have several small meals (1/2 cup or less) up to 6 times per day if that works better for you than trying to keep to 3 larger meals. Look at how often new babies need to eat since they take in such small amounts. Your new pouch is like a new baby's tummy. You have to be gentle with it.

I didn't drink the whole container, but I was talking when I was "drinking" the soup. I think it was a combination of not paying attention to what I was eating. I've learned my lesson, believe me! I don't want to feel like that again!

I'm glad you learned from this. We can give guidance based on our own experience but I think each of us still has to learn our own limits. Keep up the good work sweetie.

Make sure you are taking your measurements. That way, when the scales aren't moving you can see the progress in inches. That helped me a lot when I didn't think I was losing any or enough. At first, your body does go into starvation mode so you will have those stalls but it will start up agian so for now, try measurements. The heartburn I think is pretty normal. The prevacid didn't help me that much but I made sure to take it regularly. Your body is adjusting so it will just take time. I am happy to hear you are getting your energy back. That is great.
