Questions about RNY

I am new here and have a few questions. I just found out that my insurance will pay 100% of the surgery if I meet the criteria (Which I should considering that I've had 2 drs recommend the procedure to me). I'm attending the seminar on Feb 26 in Knoxville and wonder: 1) How long will I be off work after the surgery? I have a desk job so its nothing strenuous. 2) Has anyone had their surgery paid for by Cigna? Did they make you jump through hoops? Any help would be appreciated!

First Welcome to the board ! I was out 2 weeks at most maybe not even that long. I could have had a month but had desk job as well and was going crazy being at home. : ) I'm not sure about the question about Cigna but I want to wish you the best !

I have CIGNA.  You must meet their criteria exactly.  When you do...it is all quick and easy.  When you don't...they deny you. Welcome! Freddie

Welcome to the TN board. As far as time off work, I think it will juse depend on you and how you cope with recovery. I had never had a major surgery before so I took off plenty of time but some people can go back in a couple weeks. I would plan on at least 4 weeks just to be safe.  I had Cigna. They did pay but you do have to do exactley what they want. That includes a 6 month Dr supervised diet. That is Cigna required regardless if it is required in your companies insurance plan (learned that the hard way). So, set up an appt with your PCP and get started with your weight being noted. You have to go back once a month. There is no requirement for weight loss as long as you show you attempted a diet.  Cigna has a whole document about it  See link. it is a lot of info but it is actually not that much because the first 6 pages gives you the info you need. Just do the 6 month diet, get nutritional and a psych exam and have a bmi over 35 with medical conditions or 40 without. When your PCP writes your letter, I would show them the requirement for the 6 month diet so they can note that they went over all of that with you. http://www.cigna.com/customer_care/healthcare_professional/c overage_positions/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_b ariatric_surgery.pdf Good luck on your journey to weight loss and better health. Let us know if we can help in any way.

Hi and welcome! I had surgery on 1/30 with Dr. Williams , Dr. Boyce's partner. I haven't been back to work yet but..that is because the flu is going around the office and I don't want to get it! I could probably go back tomorrow (had my two week check up today) but I am blessed to have leave so I am not going til next Tuesday. I have a desk job too so I don't forsee any problem. The staff there is great and they will get you thru it.  I don't have Cigna so can't speak to that part of your post. Good Luck! Dottie
