This board represents many surgeons' handiwork... at many hospitals...  with many various surgery types...  Please keep these things in mind when reading posts and especially seeing what others eat and drink.  Continue to follow the guidelines of your doctor's office.  Another reason I say this is because some of us are at maintenance and can increase our caloric intake, eat things that were considered NEVER's prior to making it to goal, and there are also a few DS procedure people here on the board...  I would not want anyone to read what another person ate and think they can too and then it makes them sick... or stall their loss... etc.  So please keep these things in mind...  * Your docs orders/guidelines *Types of procedures done *How far along another individual might be Just want to prevent anyone from falling into some troubled spots...  I luv ya's!

Good reminder Melinda.  Always follow the guidelines you were given for your particular stage and procedure. If there is ever any doubt as to whether you are ready to try something new...ask!

Great Reminder Melinda!! It goes for us preggos too! hehehe. I find that I am eating things I would have never eaten before but oh well. All for a good cause.  Sometimes I forget that I am so far out and when I recommend a recipe. I forget that it is not for people who may not be further out. I mean, I never even ate SF desserts until I was over a year out from surgery but I eat them all the time now. So, we have to be careful that everyone knows to follow their own guidleines based on what stage they are in. It is also a good thing that pre-ops and newly post-ops know that eventually, you will get to the stage that you can eat "regualr" stuff agian within reason. You are not going to be "stuck" on protein shakes and refried beans the rest of your life (although you will look at food differently and have a lifestyle change). So, it is a great reminder to all of us about how far we have come and where some of us can be if we stick to our guidelines.

I honestly thought before my surgery that I would never NEVER have certain foods touch my lips again.  I was wrong.  I can taste... I can sometimes even have a few or three bites.  I could have the WHOLE thing if I wanted it bad enough... NOT WITHOUT REPERCUSSIONS!  Whew I am scared of that!  lol...  But its good that we have that fear in us... keeps us honest to ourselves about what we eat, and others as well. I just didn't want someone to stumble into a trap by seeing stuff that someone else can eat or not eat...  Remember, we will never "be normal"...  we were told and advised by our surgeons and nutritionists that we would always have a low carb diet...  and remember...  WE each signed on the dotted line and said 'Sure, sure, ok, ok, I swear, I promise... I'll abide by the rules..."  Now how many of you know that's the truth?  Come on, raise those hands!

Great post!  When I made the chocolate cake for my FIL, I knew it would be for a special occasion only.  This would not be something that I would eat everyday. Being only six weeks out from surgery, I am finding foods that I can eat and those that I can't.  But I guess thats a learning experience.  Especially when I am sitting there feeling miserable! I definitely appreciate the reminder!
