hi everybody.   I'm 17 days out and i'm having problems using the bathroom.  I know this sounds a little personal but I need to know if this is normal and it will get better when I start eating more real food or if it's something to worry about.  I've started taking fiber pills(chewable) but I'm beginning to get uncomfortable.  Anyone have any suggestions. Completely normal - unfortunatley! Up your fluid intake. This will really help. It will get better but it was pretty bad for me for the first few weeks. The fiber pills should help as well as stool softners if you are able to take those. Just really up your fluid as much as you can. I hope it gets better for you quickly.

Hi Misty.  Thanks for the reply.  I'm glad to know that this is normal.  I'm trying to drink as much as possible but it seems like when I get to about 48-50 oz I feel like I can't drink anymore and I'm gonna float away!!  Congrats on the baby!!

Having the same problem.  My doctor told me to use Miralax, but it didn't work for me.  So, today he recommended Milk of Magnesia.  My friend who is 2 1/2 years post op said she has to take a Colace everyday. Marilyn

I'm glad to know its not just me.  I go to my doctor tomorrow for my 1st post-op checkup.  I'll see what he has to say.  Thanks for the suggestions.

I was having the same problem. My doc told me to try some baby prunes, or applesauce. And if that doesn't work some milk of magnesia. ~gidget

Oh gosh - I hate to hear this is a problem for a lot of people. I read the previous post which said colace was taken every day - Argh! Can others tell me - does this get better for most people?

I went to the dr today for my 1st post op checkup.  He said it was normal and that it will get better.  They gave me some samples of benefiber to try.  If that doesn't work they said to try milk of magnesia or magnesium citrate(this stuff is horrible but it works).  The main thing is to make sure you are getting all of your water in.
