Pre-Op Diet

Well I start my pre-op diet on Thursday. I can't say I am looking forward to so many protein shakes, but I know I will be able to do it because I am ready for this.  I do have some challenges coming up -- a lunch meeting, a dinner meeting, and a sorority alumni event that is being held at a restaurant. I can't imagine cracking open a protein shake at any of these.  I think I may just order a side salad (and not eat my Lean Cuisine) at the dinner meeting.  And as far as the lunch meeting and sorority event... I'll stick to water with lemon.  When you're in my industry and involved in social and professional organizations, it seems that food is always there.  I'm going to have to learn how to overcome that. I guess tomorrow night will be my "last supper" before the surgery.  A friend is having a birthday gathering at B.B. King's.  So I think I'll be ordering BBQ ribs or a pulled pork sandwich.  Not my favorite, but I made a trip to Cheesecake Factory two weeks ago... and Maggiano's on Saturday.... so I think I'm good. :) Oh and I just remembered... I'm going to the Preds game on Thursday.  No Miller Lite.  No hot pretzel. *tear* Food is such a part of my social life. Maybe the next two weeks will be harder than I think. I can do this... right?? :)

When I had to loose 10% for the insurance, I thought  this stinks. But I kept my eye on the goal and it came off surprisingly fast. You can do it just keep your eye on the goal. The social meals are hard, but I tell myself look all the times when family and friends have been dieting (even the one trying to loose that whole 5lbs) nobody really notices much any more. Hope this helps in some small way. Good Luck!

You'll do fine!  Just keep your eye on the prize and it will be worth it all.  By the way, what type of work do you do? Scott

Hey Pink! You are gonna be just fine.  You just need to change your mind about how you view these upcoming situations.  I think that we all have been faced with challenges involving food.  The day before my surgery my husband and I hosted my daughter's sweet 16 party.  Lots of loud music, teenagers and a menu complete with a chocolate ganache covered fudge cake surrounded by dark, white and milk chocolate enrobed fresh strawberries.  We had barbeque of every variety (her favorite food) and every side imaginable!  You know what...I didn't even lick my fingers when I served the cake.  It's just food.  I have had it all before...I know what it tastes like. Instead of thinking of what you can not have...how about changing your mind to think about what you can have?  This surgery is going to give you a whole new life full of energy and fun!!!  You won't have to be tortured and that mean ole hunger pain is going to finally get tamed!  Just think...if you can only change your mind to see this as a positive practice time...it's gonna be a breeze! By the way, what sorority were you in?  I am way older than you but I was a Chi Omega. Take care! Freddie

I remember when I did my pre-op and we had like five functions in a two week period! It was hard, but I kept telling myself it is worth it!!!! You can do this.....just keep thinking how much healthier you will be next year at some of the functions you attend! Not to mention how good you will look girl! You will do great!!!!

Hang in there, you can do it. I did my pre op diet over Christmas and survived. My surgeon was extremely pleased how much my liver had shrunk over the 4 weeks (yep, my pre op diet was 4 weeks..3 weeks 2 shakes and a LQ...1 week 4 shakes). But now it is all worth it!! It still amazes me that the 6 meatballs I had for dinner with the family last night completely filled me up.

I'm loving my DS,

Doug
