Very Upset
My BFF was denied the first time to and she was very upset also-as should be. I would say have your MD write a letter of support showing them that you were undeniably obese. My BFF went to chattanooga and met with the one telling her she was denied-she had her records and pictures and letters in tow. and they finally approved her.
I feel for you, but at least you have options-dont give up. I have no way around mine now-changed insurances thinking my BCBS plan covered WLS only to find out the network we were in does not pay for it at ALL! so now I have to wait another yr or pay OOP which I cant afford
I am 33 and have PCOS, heart palps, etc also and did have HTN. The good news is since I started my 6 months paln in Aug (that Cigna had required) I have lost wt and have come off Diovan-I am still on spironalactone for PCOS but dont need the more heavy duty BP. I am still "morbidly obese" and know I cannot get to "normal" wt without this surgery so I WILL NOT GIVE UP-and dont you either!
I can tell you what they are wanting...TO BE JERKS...and they can because this is definitely the ins co. game we are playing...Who knows..maybe one i wasn't dotted or one t wasn't crossed...I know I will do this 6 month thing and then something else will come up so I can be denied again...But dont give up...see what Dr. Morton's office can do...I'm sure they have been through this before...
I am wanting the Lap Band. I am waiting on Amy to call me this morning. She said she would call my insurance and see what was going on. I just am so upset. I can't understand why they do this to people. It's not like I am wanting this just to look good (although that is a good benefit from it). I am wanting this to get healthy and live to raise my kids. They deserve a mom that can be there for them no matter what they are doing.

Laura:
Take a deep breath and get yourself together. I was denied TWICE! You are in wonderful hands with Dr. Morton's office. They have been doing this for a long time and the ladies who work with the insurance folks are not new to this game. Just try to be calm and don't get yourself in a tizzy (it isn't good for your blood pressure.)
As many others have stated...your weight and height speak for themselves. If you meet the criteria...you are fine. Just let the wonderful folks at Dr. Morton's office find out what the situation is and then just handle it.
As for already making lifestyle changes...good for you! It can never hurt to go ahead and do as much as you can to get healthy. You are doing great and will be just fine.
Big supportive smile!
