I led three horses to water. Only one drank.
I overheard two women talking about joining WW this month... eating it up before next week... I mentioned casually that if they up their protein intake, they will lose more weight, and keep their muscle mass. One lady asked, "Really?" The other said her body didn't like protein. I asked what happened when she took in protein? She said she got constipated. I told her more fiber would help, and I had a recipe for some "poop bread"! lol. I guess she didn't think it was a "go" for her. Nothing more said. Well ok, but why not take some advice from someone who has lost 135 lbs? I tried to get them to drink the water. They wouldn't.
So this afternoon... a vendor came by my office. I had talked to her some time ago before Christmas about protein. Her children are overweight, as well as her husband. She's not in my opinion, but wanted to lose about 10 lbs. She called after Christmas asking for the info I had previously given to her as she had misplaced it. Today, she said her son "got on board" and has lost 5 lbs. this month. Her youngest son doesn't want to eat anything good for him, but wants cokes and chips so she's having a hard time with him. We talked for about 25 minutes and she's coming back on Monday to pick up some products I am going to give her.
One suggestion was the protein jello and pudding that I got from BariatricEating. I told her that the kids didn't have to know it had protein in it... she's going to give it a try. I was encouraged that while two didn't want my advice, one person did... and has been trying hard to make a difference in her family's weight.
Funny you mentioned that, because with all the Presidential debates going on, I have wished I could ask them what they plan to do about the alarming epidemic of obesity in our country. Not to mention the lack of support for WLS, just today, it was reported on the news that WLS is the best treatment for type II diabetes, but still we have companies that exclude WLS from their policies?????

Beth, I know this will not help the situation for everyone else, but it made a difference for me. I found a website one day that list the nutrition info for over 400 restaurants. When we are planning on eating out, we always try and check the information before we go. The link is below:
Restaurant Nutrition Information
The macaroni and cheese story is similar to mine. Back before surgery, but after I started reading labels, I asked Beth to pick up a couple of the yogurt smoothies for my lunch. She did. When it was time for lunch, I got my smoothie and read the label. It had over 50 grams of carbs! I was shocker and through it away. So yes, we need to let people know what is going on!
Have a good day

Way to go! you are making a difference! Isn't it amazing....we are now looking at the world and wishing they made healthier choices and encouraging them. Lots of things, not the least of which was my surgery, have caused my family to stop and look at the junk in processed foods. Whew!
MY new bandwagon is nutrition info on menus in restuarants......seriously- ignoring a problem makes it worse. As I was flipping through the channels, I came across a guy on Ellen. HE pointed out the kids (YES KIDS) portion of MAc and Cheese from Macaroni grill had 62 grams of fat as well as over 3000 mg of sodium. OHHH MY blood boiled.
Can we lobby through groups such as these to push for information..........We need to stop this so that new generations can make healthy choices instead of ignoring the problem.
Thanks for making a difference dear. You are a BLESSING!
