Question about Self Pays

I had my surgery 12-07. It was completely self-pay (It was an exclusion from my Blue Cross policy). The cost was a little over $28K. My surgeon was Dr. Albert Spaw. It may cost a little more there (or even a little less)--but no matter what --it is WORTH it and I would recommend Dr. Spaw without any reservation. Capitol One Healthcare has a great plan if you have to finance any or all of the fees (18 mo interest free--if approved).  Good Luck !!!

I had my surgery in Aug 07 and was a self pay. I was originally denied because I was a healthy 400 pounder (can you say oxymoron). I then continued to wor****il it was determined it was an exclusion on my wifes policy. The best decision we made was to self pay and not worry about the hoops involved with insurance companies. Total out of pocket was $15k for lap band. I had my surgery at Centennial with Dr Houston. I know I am probably a little biased but I think he is the best. The best facility and the best program. I am saying this just so you get an idea, if one has a good experience they will consider their surgeon and program the best. I truly believe you would not go wrong with either program. Although my biased opinion is CMC over Baptist. The fact you are pushing through for yourself is really what matters. There are many wonderful people who have been helped by both programs. Stay the course. Do not get discouraged. Lots of awesome people on this board. Much Love
