Lap Band Self Pays - Anyone Out There?

Yesterday I found out that my medical plan has a specific exclusion for weight loss surgeries/assistance including morbid obesity, regardless of comorbidities.  So, based on this info, I'll have to pay for any surgery out of pocket.  Has anyone paid for Lap Band out of pocket?  I'm looking for info regarding cost of surgery including surgeon & follow up expenses, including fills.   "Not eating what's on my plate in 2008!" I can't help you with the lap band.  I was self pay, almost 4 years ago with the RNY, but you may want to go to the seminars for different programs and get their packect of information or call and ask the clinics, I am sure they will be glad to help you. darlene

Feel free to check out my blogs on my myspace page. I was a self pay lap bander after finding our about the insurance exclusion. My total out of pocket was around $15k for 2007. This included preop and 2 post op adjustments (fills). The follow up fills are $100 if done in the office and $250 if done at the hospital. Hope this helps. Go to the lap band forum .. you will find many self pay lap band patients there and they can give you advice and tell you of their costs and experiences.. There is also a south of the border forum here on oh  just go to forums and scroll down to more fourms   you will find it in one of the boxes , costs are much cheaper in Mexico, but you must be very, very careful where you go and who is your surgeon also you must line up a doctor here in the states ahead of time for your fills and that is sometimes a problem as most US  doctors do not want to do follow up care or fills from Mexican surgery patients you need to plan very carefully and , it can be done Good luck!
