SCALES

Good Morning all! After reading Scott's post about the changing pants sizes, I got to wondering about something.  What are the best scales to use to weigh?  My hubby bought a set of old fashioned scales from WallyWorld but hopefully they are not correct.  They say I have lost no weight in 2 weeks.  We think they are off because they have my hubby weighing about 20 pounds less than he does.  At this stage (4 weeks post op), wouldn't it be weird to not lose weight for 2 weeks?  I am so afraid that my metabolism is so slow that I won't lose weight no matter what!  I had to miss my surgeon's appt this week due to threat of snow and ice here in the mountains.  So, any suggestions for a brand of scales?

Hey Marylin!  We use  a set of scales that were purchased at Home Depot/Lowes that is made by Weigh****chers. Here is a pic of them and a link to the website!

I got a Tanita at Bed, Bath & Beyond. It allows you to enter your age, gender, and height and gives you not only your weight but also hydration index and Total Body Fat index. It cost about $50.

I just saw your ticker for plastics!  Now I will not have to wonder when my birthday is!  I'll just check out one of your post and I'll know.  You are so sweet for doing that for me!

Did you also notice the caterpillar and butterfly connection? I figure I'm still in caterpillar mode and I'm gonna come out of this a butterfly! Glad I can help you keep tabs on your birthday. I know how forgetful old folks can be.  Thinking

I just use some cheapy one from Target, but they're pretty accurate - almost exactly what I weighed at my last dr. appt. My main reason for posting is to tell you not to panic - even if you find that you are already in a stall. When I was in my first month post-op, I went through a 2-3 week stall (I think it was 20 days). Your body is in shock - it's been through a lot. Your intake has been extremely minimal since starting your pre-op regimine and then dropped even lower after surgery. your body is saying, "Hey, wait a minute!" and going into starvation/survival mode --- and trying to hold onto everything it's got. Once your body realizes you are going to consistently give it what it needs (protein/water), the pounds will start dropping again. I think Susan said she hit a stall like this and then one morning she got up and had lost 10 pounds overnight! That didn't quite happen to me, I think it was like 4. Then 2 a couple days later. Then 1 the next day. You are going to be fine --- you ARE going to lose! You ARE going to be SUCCESSFUL!! Just keep doing what you know to do (sip, sip, sip - get in your protein - and walk!) We're all here cheering you on! ~ Tara

My advice is to not buy one.  You will end up driving yourself batty with them.  I only weigh when I go to the doctor, if I have been compliant , unless I have hit a plateau then I will have lost or at least stayed the same.  If you weigh everyday it just makes you freak out when you hit the plateau.

Thanx guys for the suggestions.  The reason that I want a good scale is because I live so far from my surgeon that I won't be seeing him as often as most people.  Scott, the one you got sounds good.  I wonder if I am not getting in enough liquid, of that will effect my weight loss?

I got mine at Target a few years ago, it does the same things as the one Susan has, but it was around thirty dollars.  It is a HealthOMeter.  I also weigh everyday, not I am not obsessed with my weight, it keeps me on track, I do not want to wait a while and then find out that I have gained several pounds, this way, I can keep ahead of my weight.  I never would weigh before, because I was so heavy and as you know, it would really be depressing.  I do also keep a log of my weight, I do not track it daily, but I have chosen Tuesdays as my official weigh in day, therefore on Tuesdays, I record that weight.  OH yeah!!  My scale weight you to the tenth of the pound, therefore I can see every little gain or loss, it helps!!! Good Luck, Shelia
