I work in a WLS center, but I also had Roux-en-Y in May 2007.
We always recommend our patients stay in a hotel in town for the first 24-48 hours. 
Of course, we can't demand that, but I think it would give you more ease of mind if you did, at least your first night out. Best of luck to you!

Thanks Pam! Dr. Richards said I probably would be in the hospital 2 nights post-op, provided everything went OK. I could probably stay in a hotel there for another night. I will probably be contacting you with some more questions! You should definitely be able to answer from both sides of the issue!!
