Just want to get all the information I can. I am wanting to wait till I get down to 200 lbs to actually have any plastics and I'm about 16 lbs away from that so... Anybody know any information about Plastic surgery in Mexico? I have heard it is less expensive but is it SAFE? Just wanting to hear everything you know about plastics websites, magazines whatever you can provide is appreciated.

Hi Juanita, I don't know anything about plastics in Mexico, just keep in mind that you may have a lot of staples that the surgeons office will have to remove about a week to 2 weeks after surgery. Mind came out 2 weeks after surgery at the surgeons office.  I am sorry I can't help you out more. But I would check into it a lot more before you make any arrangements to go to Mexico.  Don't forget you will need a passport to get back into the USA.  Ask Melanie, she may have had stitches instead of staples.   I wish you the best and proud of how much you have lost to-date.  Love Kathy

Thank you Kathy, you bring up a very good and valid point. Something I did not think about having to return afterwards to have staples removed. Thanks for bringing that up.

Mel brings up some real good thoughts to also think about.  Very valid points.  I'm glad I had my done in the states as my left leg got a real bad staph infection that took 2 months to heal.  Better be safe then sorry.  Love ya,

Juanita I have heard that there are several reasons not to go to Mexico.  First of all, doctors here are under US regulations...  they have accountability for insurance malpractice purposes, etc.  So you are safer to go to an American doctor Another thing, if you come home, and have problems, you are facing some trouble because your surgeon won't be providing the aftercare.  sometimes this might be why they are so cheap, and don't really care about the outcome...  I have heard too many things, once there was a news story on it on tv, that people go to Mexico for these surgeries and end up in trouble... you may see if your insurance will cover some of these procedures....  Hope this helps!

wow Juanita! You are so close to having plastics!! That is so awesome!!! As for having any surgery in Mexico, I haven't really heard of anything good. Is it really less expensive in the long run after factoring in roundtrip airfare and then accomodations while you are there...and from what I've read most people have to stay a couple of weeks to return to the surgeon for followups and what knot. Maybe you can get some insight from the plastic surgery forum on OH too.

Juanita,   I have seen several reports on shows like Dateline about plastics in Mexico and in other countries.  It's pretty much a crap shoot!  Not a good idea when you are talking about your health and body.  They are not up to the required standards as here in the states and there were many reports of all kinds of different infections and complications.  The idea of getting plastics at a discounted rate sounds appealing, but you have to really consider the cost.  If you have complications, you would have to find a surgeon here to correct it and it would more than likely not be covered by insurance.  It's the old adage:  You get what you pay for!  (That even applies to surgeons/doctors in the states).

Thank you ladies for all your valuable input. I had doubts and now you have convinced me I should find a good surgeon right here at home. I am getting excited, nervous just like before having the bypass but it may take me a ehile to lose the wieght I want now that it is moving so slow. You all are very appreciated. Love ya !

Mexico is alluring, just as someone said, because of price... but ultimately it could cost you or your family a whole lot more, should something go awry.  We would definitely not want to see anything happen to you.  I'm glad you are not going to Mexico.  That concerns me...  heard too much on the news about people who have regretted it.... I had stitches... some were removed...  but the drain... that will need to be monitored, and you will definitely want to be near your surgeon.  Sometimes the drains can stay in longer than a week.  Mine was in 3 or 4 wks! OUCH!
