Good Afternoon Joyce, YOur best protein sources are going to be fish and chicken.  If you are looking at lables - good luck.  As far as protein drinks, I like the Matrix perfectly chocolate.  Others drink other brands and prefer them to matrix.  I bought a sampler pack from bariatric eating first before I spent the big bucks on protein drinks.  Good luck. Peace! Beth

The Carb Control Yogurt at Kroger has 12  grams of protein, 80 calories, 1.5 grams of fat and 3 sugars. Plus they are tasty, not all thin like the other yogurts. My nutritionist recommended it and I live off them even now.  You have to try the protein drinks for yourself. Everyone's taste buds are different. Try to get samples and don't buy huge quantities. I like vanilla flavors, others love chocolate. Good luck. Marie

Have to tell you I just LOVE Aldi's grocery. They have frozen salmon  they are 4 oz each and individually wrapped, they also have frozen talapia, white fish, shrimp. Also they have frozen meatballs that I like and just put sauce on and heat and they are very good and all these are very high in protein. As fars as drinks the others made good suggestions, get sample packs and find one you like, everyones taste are different.

I highly recommend getting trial versions of protein shakes before you waste your money. I bought a lot and couldn't choke them down after surgery. I ended up relying on cottage cheese and sugar free pudding with powdered sf carnation instant breakfast powder in it to beef up the protein a bit. I'd also stock up on bottled water and broth. Fluids tend to be the hardest immediately after surgery. You can do alright for a little while after surgery if you do not get all your protein in, but if you don't get all your fluids in, you will be in medical trouble--take it from a nurse!
