I'm Freaking Out! (a little...)

Ok, next Monday (1-7) I begin my pre-op diet and I'm starting to get nervous. Jan. 21st was 6 weeks away when I got the call from Dr. Spaw's office and now it's a little over 2 weeks away.  It just seems so real now and I'm wondering if I am really mentally and emotionally ready for this HUGE change! I think deep down I really am, but then I think about how much food plays a part in my life and how am I going to handle not haivng that anymore. I hope this is just normal anxiety over a major life change! I'd appreciate any advise.

I think we've all been through this fear. Yes, your relationship with food will change. I know, for me, the change has been eating to live instead of living to eat. I actually enjoy my food more now because I really have to think about what I want instead of just eating whatever I can put my hands on. My meals have to earn pouch space now so I want only the best! The nerves are normal. Just remember to breath and you'll be fine. You are going to be another January baby! You are in wonderful hands with Dr. Spaw.

Samantha, I haven't had my turn yet. I am sending you thoughts and prayers for a uneventful surgery along with a speedy recovery.  And a wonderful new life journey. Hugs Barb

Samantha ~ Yes, girl, you ae SO normal. Just think, before you know it you will be posting something like...  "I remember when surgery was only two weeks away, now I'm on the otherside - 4 weeks out  (or 6, or 8, or 3 months) - and it's the best thing I've ever done for myself!" I am exactly 4 months out today. I have lost 75 pounds and have gone from wearing size 22-24 and 2x's to wearing size 14-16 and large's. I even got a size 12 skirt for Christmas and wore it last Sunday to church! I've down to size B pantyhose - from not wearing them because they were too hard to get on (and I wore pants all the time anyway). What's more? I'm HEALTHIER! I can tell it, my friends & family can tell it, even my children can tell! I'm not taking pain pills for anything - except some tylenol for those lovely monthly cramps. My eyes twinkle, my skin glows... I had my annual physical at 3 months out and all my levels were SO GOOD! My HDL and LDL are beautiful, my triglycerides are at 59! My blood pressure is like 97 over 68.  So, as the others have said, take a deep breath, and know that you are making one of the best decisions of your life, and we are all here to cheer you on! You're going to be just fine - you're in the best hands possible, in my opinion - Dr. Spaw is my surgeon, too!  ~ Tara

Thanks for all the supportive messages! I have made it (almost) though the first day of the beginning of my NEW life! Yes, I did get hungry and one point today I know I heard a candy bar calling my name when I passed by the breakroom at work (lol) but it really hasn't been as bad as I imagined it would be. I guess nothing ever is! It is great to have people to vent to and ask questions. I appreciate all of your help and support! Thanks! Samantha
